American Idol 2010!

I love Casey James, but not exactly for his singing.
30.gif
The man is HOT! Lee is good too. I wonder if they'll try to pit the two 'rockers' against each other.

My hub refuses to watch now because of my Casey obsession, lol.

I''m on Team Andrew as he''s a friend by proxy. I absolutely loved "Straight Up" and I think his rendition of that song during Hollywood Week will carry him pretty far. I haven''t watched this week''s, but I liked his version of "Sugar We''re Goin Down" from last week.

Will have to catch up. Hope he didn''t choke this week.

I really *love* Michael Lynche. I like Andrew Garcia. Aaron Kelly is kind of cute in a little kid way (almost like David Archuleta, but I think Archuleta had a better voice). I want him to stay on for a while because I enjoy his voice, but I don''t want him to win. Andrew needs to do better though, because he hasn''t lived up to the hype from Hollywood week when he was amazing.

I don''t really love any of the girls. I liked Didi Benami, but she has picked bad songs the last two weeks. Hopefully she''ll get better (unless she leaves tonight). I can''t stay Lilly Scott or Siobhan Magnus (I guess I''m in the minority here, but they just really irritate me). I think the thing with the girls is that a bunch of them have good voices, but either their personalities bother me or I just don''t think their voices are good enough for them to win.

I really like Ellen and I find I agree with her often - I also like that she brings some humor to the show. Kara is starting to annoy me because the way she talks and moves her head is almost b*tchy - I can''t explain it well, but DH pointed it out first and now I totally see it every single time she talks. Simon looks bored all the time.

I''m enjoying this season a lot less than usual though (with the exception of Ellen because I like her). The only contestant I *really* like is Mike so I guess since I don''t care about anyone else it''s hard to get as into it as I usually do.

Lilac I''m with you on the girls. I don''t really like Lilly o Siobhan that much. For that matter, the girls I like (personality-wise) aren''t the strongest singers so I don''t have much hope for them lasting through the season. So I''m placing all my bets on the guys
3.gif

I don''t really get the Casey thing?? I think he''s cute! But not like, you know, amazingly hot or anything. I did love his performance last week - the guy''s got a nice voice.

I keep rooting for the guy with the crazy glasses since I heard his Paula Abdul song. So far so meh, but I''m hoping he gets it together.

I love Big Mike. I don''t personally want to jump on Casey, but I see the appeal. Anyone else think he seems way cuter and authentic in his videos, but when he looks at you straight on he''s got a gay Tom Petty vibe? Regardless, he''s good at what he does, great stage presence and good voice. I can see him as a recording artist.

The girls, oy. The ones with the best voices (to me) are Crystal, Lily, Didi and Siobhan. But they all bug me personality wise. The teeny-boppers HAVE TO GO. I can''t listen to them talk or sing. That Katy girl takes herself WAY too seriously.

I do NOT understand how after this many seasons of AI, there are still this many bad song choices. If it was me, I bet I would have had my songs planned out for YEARS.

We''re a day behind (we DVR it), so we''ve only seen the guys perform this week. I really like Casey James, Crystal Bowersox, Mike Lynche (Big Mike), and Katie Stevens. Since we haven''t seen the girls perform yet this week, I may change my mind. I can''t remember what I think of some of the girls -- many of them tend to blend together. I WANT to like Lee Dewyze but he''s off or something.

I''ve been watching a bit this season. I refuse to watch before the hollywood part of the show because I HATE their audition process and the way they ridicule some auditioning contestants so I probably don''t know a much background about any of these contestants.

I think the girls are definitely stronger this year. I like the unique indie-style voices they''ve got on this year.

Also I think the show seems a bit weak at the moment because a) they still haven''t gotten it narrowed down to the really talented few on for the season and b) these kids are soooo nervous still you can totally tell and as a singer myself, I can attest to how unbelievably dramatically being nervous affects your voice. I think they will start to settle into the groove in the next few weeks and start to shine a bit more.

Lilac I totally know what you mean about Kara, she is on a high horse these days.... also did she get something done to her face... she looks funny?

Also my little claims to fame this season.... I went to high school with Lee! I don''t actually think I''ve ever talked to him but I definitely recognize him and know we have a number of mutual friends.

And then when I was basking in the glow of Lee''s lime light(bahaha-kidding) watching on Tuesday, they introduced John Park and I thought he looked really familiar and then I realized I knew him too!! Haha and I actually think I have met him. I was in an a cappella group in the midwest as well at the same time he was and we have actually performed with each other in the past.

K I''m done name dropping haha but I was pretty shocked to know two people to make it on AI even if I barely know either of them.

Sheesh, I didn''t think my teeth comment would create a stir! There''s a difference between oral hygiene and having parents that can pay for dental work. I had parents that took me to the dentist like clockwork every six months and I spent many years in a headgear and braces. Still, I smoked, drank soda like a fish and never flossed. My teeth are getting better but they''re still no where NEAR perfect. It''s always one of the first things I notice about someone, I guess. Anyway, if it were strictly based on singing, I think there''d have been a different top 24. How dare I judge someone on a show about judging people!
20.gif
Hells bells, Kara told Katelyn two weeks ago that she loved her singing but hated her makeover. Anywho.......

I''m glad to see Healey go. I think she needs a few years more of practice. Not sure how Tim Urban managed to hang on another week. Yikes!

Does anyone go to the website VoteForTheWorst dot com? Oh man, the show reviews are HILARIOUS!

I don''t know, maybe I''m just cranky today, but I''m annoyed with these judges right now... why choose Hailey for the top 24, and then tell her she needs a few more years (in front of the whole country?) Just surprised at how these judges gush during Hollywood week, and then end up not liking most of these contestants.

I definitely am cranky today, so don''t mind me...some of them still seem really nervous, and the song choices, oy! Hopefully some of them will start to shine a little more. This week I loved Michael, Lee, Crystal and Siobhan. Andrew doing "Straight Up" so well seems to be both a blessing and a curse for him, all his performances are being compared to it.

Ditto. To everything. Especially the cranky part!

Watching the girls for this week.

My impressions so far:

I love the young girl, Katie''s voice. Boring performance but man, I would love to have her voice.

The girl who did House of the Rising Sun (Siobhan?) - the first minute or two annoyed me (she sounded like she had phlegm in the back of her throat) but it got interesting and pretty good from there)

Um...don''t really remember curly-haired girl.

Didi is really cute and has a great look but I''m not a big fan of her voice.

I feel like I''m missing one. Oh well.

My personal opinion is that this is the worst year ever, easily. The singers are very similar to each other and as Simon would say, "kind of boring".

I don't think the singers are as good as in other years. I don't think any of them is as good as Fantasia of Jennifer Hudson, or even in the same league.

I don't like Ellen as a judge. She's not in the music industry. I like Ellen just fine, but not on this show.

I love Crystal Bowersox, and I still also really like Katie, Siobhan, and the curly haired girl whose name escapes me right now. Of the girls, I think Paige Miles and Didi are leaving this week. I want to like Didi more, but her voice is too similar to Megan Joy''s, who was on last season. I didn''t like the way her voice was so...wavery or something. Not a fan.

Crystal by far my favorite girl. the others all remind me of each other.
I really like Paige but her song choice and performance last night were so "meh" i fear she may be going home. I think Katie and the curly haired girl could also go. the curly hair girl sings fine, she''s just boring.

What do you guys think of Lacey (the girl with short, red hair)? I liked her originally but am not a fan at all anymore. The judges said she did really well last night, but I hope she goes home. I think Paige might also be going home. I like her, but her song choice has been terrible.

I am liking Siobhan more and more...think she might be my favorite girl. I think Crystal is really good and deserves to do well, she''s just not my style so much. And I like Katie as well.

I like Katie. Great voice, but didn''t particularly like her performance last night though. But I hope she stays.

I don''t like Lacey - her voice irritates me so much and I think I actually fell asleep during her performance last night. And I was on the elliptical, so it takes a really boring performance to make me almost fall asleep on there!

I can''t stand Siobhan. I think she has a good singing voice, but I can''t stand *watching* her sing or listening to her speak. Her personality irritates me to no end.

Katelyn (curly hair) is ok, but again I was kind of bored last night during her performance.

Paige chose the wrong song. I wouldn''t mind if she went home.

I''ve always liked Didi because of what she sang during Hollywood week, but unfortunately she hasn''t been as good since then. The judges liked her last night, but I wasn''t too excited about it.

Crystal bothers me. I look at her and wonder if she ever showers. She reminds me so much of Jason Castro who I also didn''t like. I think she has a nice voice, but when I look at her I can''t imagine her becoming a star.

Lilly Scott - I hate her voice. I know everyone seems to love her, but I truly cannot understand why.

I''m excited for the boys tonight. I like them SO much better than the girls (which isn''t saying much though because I don''t particularly like any of the girls). Definitely worst season of Idol (for me) so far. I hope Michael Lynche is good tonight because he''s my favorite.

For me, I like Shioban and Crystal the best. Katie has a great voice, and I think she''ll hang in there for awhile longer. Shioban and Crystal have such confidence, and I don''t worry when I watch them that they"ll have trouble hitting a note or go off-key.

I actually really liked Didi last night...I cringed when I heard what she was going to sing, and I was pleasantly surprised. She just did her own thing, didn''t worry about sounding like Stevie Nicks, and sang from her heart, pure and simple.

Katelyn could have done so much with her song, she could have really gotten into it, but she was kind of boring and restrained. Not sure what was going on there. Oh, she mentioned something about not wanting to look "corny". She should have taken the risk!

I thought Lacey gave a really good performance, I just don''t care for her voice that much. I feel the same way about Lilly.

Poor Paige, I don''t know why she chose that song. It''s a shame, she''s got a good voice.

My call: either Paige or Katelyn are heading home. But you never know!

My fav is Crystal Bowersox...she IS a naturally fabulous singer. She''s always ON. No one else from the girls really grabs my attention. I haven''t seen the guys that much but that Big guy (AA husky) guy is good.

I love ELLEN but they really need someone there that has experience in vocals and the music industry.

I still love seeing Ellen there. I think Bowersox will take it all the way!

Did anyone else notice Crystal''s new engagement-type ring? Solitaire w/ square cut stone -- worn solo on the appropriate finger. Haven''t seen any reports of her getting engaged this past week but don''t remember the ring before.

Also: the continuing stereotypical judgments in this thread are really saddening to me. They surprise me every time and then I kick myself for expecting everyone to be open-minded.

I noticed the ring. Wondered if it had always been there and I had never noticed it before, or if it was something new. It definitely looked like an engagement ring.

I''m not sure if your "stereotypical judgments" comment was directed at me for my comment earlier about Crystal. Whether or not it was, it made me think about my earlier comment anyway. I probably shouldn''t have said it, and I apologize (not to you, but in general to everyone I''m sorry for making the comment). Can''t edit anymore, so I''ll just make a general statement here that I should have refrained from saying anything about Crystal''s appearance because the truth is, appearances shouldn''t matter that much on a singing show. I can''t change what comes to my mind when I look at her but I should never have said something judgmental like that and I should have just focused on her voice, because after all, this is a singing competition.

I still don''t like her, and I can''t say I ever will. I guess we''ll see. I do try and keep an open mind each week with *all* the contestants because there have been times in the past that I''ve strongly disliked some of them and then they got better with more experience and I liked them more. Crystal just doesn''t do it for me. I can recognize that she''s talented, but I just don''t like her voice enough to want to keep listening to it.

Glad I wasn''t the only one to notice. That would make me feel like a bit of a ring stalker!

And I really didn''t mean anyone in particular with my comment. There have been many *observations* or assumptions that have made me stop cold. I''m sure there are a lot of people at home thinking exactly what you wrote. Its idealistic to think that people don''t judge that way in a talent competition. Its more jarring when it comes from someone you virtually *know* a bit. Everyone has the right to their opinion. I didn''t mean for you to feel singled out.

No not at all, I was actually glad you said something because it made me stop and think about what I had said. I think the reason I made that observation was sort of similar to why I might make certain observations about someone who shows up for a job interview in a miniskirt and t-shirt. I think if that person wants people to take them seriously for a job, there are certain types of clothing they need to wear in order to be taken seriously and to look the part. But truthfully the more I think about it the more I realize that the music business is *very* different from a job environment - there are so many different kinds of people from all different walks of life. I guess there isn''t really a way to necessarily "look the part" of a singer or star because there are SO many different and diverse kinds of people in the entertainment industry. Just because the look of Crystal Bowersox doesn''t appeal to me at all doesn''t make her any less of a *singer* and this is a singing competition. So I''m actually glad you said something because it brought my own comment to my attention.

I really like Crystal. I think she''s the only one of the bunch who''s a performer. The others are pretty good singers, but she''s got the whole package. I''m really glad they whitened her teeth though.
9.gif

Lilly is overrated. I think she got really cocky after everyone told her she was sooooo great, but I dunno, she''s just kinda meh for me. DH thinks she looks like a witch with her silver hair that makes her skin look gray.
3.gif

The only thing I *don't* like about Crystal is that she's played it kinda safe when it comes to song selection. She plays songs that fall so totally in her wheelhouse. She hasn't had her Kris Allen-does-Kanye West moment ... or Kris Allen-does-Ain't No Sunshine moment.

How awesome would it be if she could make a folk tune out of, say, Lady Gaga ("Bad Romance"?) or Justin Timberlake ("Cry Me A River?") or Jamie Foxx ("Blame It On The Alcohol") -- just kidding about that last one.

Last night I also liked Didi & Lilly ... the redhead was better but is grating to me somehow. Leaving: someone with "Kat" in their name. Katelyn and Katy both honked & poor pitiful Paige. Big voice, likable girl, no idea who she is at all. Two Kelly Clarkson songs? Really? And then "Smile"? I kinda hope she gets another chance. Especially since its getting eerily pale and one dimensional over there.

Deco- Would love to see someone folk up the Gaga, and I think it can be done. When she performed Poker Face on SYTYCD a few seasons ago, she started out on the piano and sang it slow. It was actually beautiful and then she went into the song as we know it.

I would sing a slow version of Borderline by Madonna. Sort of how Travis took Britney''s "Oops I Did It Again" and made it beautiful.

Or someone should do the acoustic version of Everlong by Foo Fighters. A girl, that would be awesome. See, endless possibilities. There are so many great songs, NO REASON to pick a stupid song.

Btw I can''t sing AT ALL.

LOL. I think she''ll get there. It might take a push from the judges to do something different, but she will. I have faith!

The redhead Lacey''s eyes mesmerize me. If I was single and a lesbian I''d be crushing hardcore! Her voice is cute, but she''d be a one hit wonder if she made a record without Idol.

Three guys into tonight's show and I already love the guys WAY more than the girls.

Tim Urban's version of Hallelujah was amazing. Still love Lee's voice.

Hmm...Andrew is doing Genie in a Bottle with an acoustic guitar...interesting...

ETA: Ok, Andrew is dropping quickly down my favorites list while Tim and Lee are going up - that was not a great performance.

ETA2: Casey this week =
30.gif

I think the guys did really well last night overall. I have a feeling my opinions are not going to "gel" with the general public though.

I actually really LOVE the kid with the mullet, Adam. I think he might be my favorite, and I hope he can learn to open up and connect with a song.

I did not like Tim Urban''s version of Hallelujah. I mean, he did well and all, but Jeff Buckley''s version of that song gives me goose bumps when I hear it, so Tim''s just paled in comparison.

I was thinking Broadway for Toddrick before the judges even mentioned it...I think that is totally what he should be doing.

I''m not a fan of the young kid whose name I can''t remember. I thought the disagreement of the judges on song choice for him was interesting, I could see both sides. It was a nice song that he seemed to like and get into, but it also did seem weird to me to hear him singing about a man missing his family on the road. He''s definitely a country singer though.

I liked Casey''s song choice, and that''s one of my favorite songs, but I''m still not the biggest fan of him for some reason.

As much as I like Andrew, I thought his version of Genie in a Bottle was just creepy. The ''style'' of song for him was good, but when you slow those lyrics down like that and enunciate them, it just sounds creepy to me. I think he needs to pick a pop song like that and slow it down, but the lyrics need to be meaningful to him for it to really work.

And Mike blew me away. That was awesome, and he totally raised the bar for next week. I''m glad he went last because all the other performances probably would have looked like crap after that.

Ok. Time for the guys.

Lee Dewyze - I''ve never liked him before this week, but he was ok this week. Not great for me, but I liked him more than usual.

Alex Lambert - I think he''s a sweet kid but the sound of his voice irritates me so much. I just don''t like how he sounds.

Tim Urban - I thought he was great last night. Great song choice and I thought he sounded really good.

Todrick Hall - I think he''s good, but he definitely belongs on Broadway. DH and I have said that all along, and I''m glad they mentioned it on the show last night.

Casey James - I like him better with his hair in a ponytail because then I don''t have to see such long hair
3.gif
- as usual, I thought he sounded very good. Good song choice. I don''t really think he''s good enough to win, but I hope he stays for a while because he seems pretty nice and I think he has a really good voice.

Andrew Garcia - WEIRD song choice. I''m not a fan of Christina Aguilera''s version either, but the lyrics sung by a man just sound inappropriate to me. "You gotta rub me the right way, baby..." - the whole thing was just weird for me and I couldn''t wait for it to end. I think it''s such a shame because I really liked him after Hollywood week but he definitely has not lived up to expectations at all.

Aaron Kelly - Started off bad, but got better. DH says he sings as if his feet are glued to the floor - he doesn''t move his feet the whole performance, he just sways his hips and his body! But I do really like his voice, and I thought he sounded really great once he hit the chorus of the song.

Michael Lynche - LOVE HIM. Seriously, I really *really* love watching him perform and listening to him sing. I had never heard the song before, but he made me love it (at least him singing it). He was so great.

Bottom line is... I wish they would kick off four girls and no boys. Or three girls and one boy. I like the boys *so* much better than the girls.

LOL ... its Opposite Day! I *love* Alex Lambert''s voice. Think its the most radio-friendly, unique, interesting of all the guys. And I much prefer Casey''s hair *down*.

So sad about Andrew Garcia. I did not want to rub him in ANY way. The Himbo singing Hallelujah -- did an okay job. WHY do folks pick AI''s greatest hits & expect to stand out though? Todrick was actually better this week. He''s so annoying though he has. to. go. And that Aaron Kelly. I have fast forwarded through EVERY ONE of his performances after the first few bars. I kaint stands em. Who else? Who else? Oh yeah, that David Cook wannabe with the fuzzy soul patch. Key words: "Who else?" Surprise elimination anyone?

And yeah yeah yeah ... Ruben 2.0. Here''s what I like: he''s in it. Killer fire & determination. Here''s what I don''t like: total cheese wiz cheesiness and cockiness. He and Crystal better watch out. America can smellllllll over-confidence. And the minute you think you''ve got us, we dodge & weave. (I''m talking to YOU Chris Daughtrey, and YOU Adam Lambert, and YOU David CrazyFather). Learn fake humble for reals ... Carrie Underwood style, not Melinda Backupsinger style.

Anyone else think Kara''s preggers? What else could account for her hormonal tear tsunami last night?
