Am I nuts? Scratched setting?

Hi everybody!

I am going nuts here about the setting that is going to be my e ring / band set. The prongs seemed to be scratched and not symmetrical to me, but my BF doesn't see it and thinks I'm crazy.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal or if it should be fixed?

There is a gap between the two sides here as shown by the circles and on the left side of the ring where the platinum meets the 18k gold, there is this weird dark spot (it's on the first picture.)

And here are the best pictures of the scratches on either sides of the 5 stone band. Most of the prongs have them including the other ring's prongs but I can only seem to capture it in photos here:

These are supposed to be new rings that were resized for me.
Am I too picky or is there something wrong here?

Thank you for reading!

Yes, for sure there are scratches on the band prongs - this is BRAND NEW to you??? Have you been wearing it for a while and do the diamonds from the ering (or prongs) rub against this band? If no, then get it repolished and perhaps wear a very thin spacer in between?

As for the ering - I wonder if the one prong is angled differently because of the individual and unique size of that particular diamond? Could that be what's affecting the angle?

What is the bench offering to do to fix it for you? Don't settle for as it is, unless it doesn't bother you - but it does, so I'd go back to the vendor and share your concerns and pics with them.

Keep us posted!

Thanks for replying Enerchi!

These supposed to be new. It was ordered from Pearlman's closeout section. We received it from Pearlman's just this Friday night. The rings touch but I haven't worn it for more than a couple minutes so I haven't got an idea if they could wear down over time yet.

The e ring center isn't set with a diamond yet, it's just a CZ placeholder for now... unless you are referring to the side stones which are round .20 / G-H / VS-SI. Ahh, that slope-y part bothers me quite a bit!

I emailed Julian from Pearlman's about the situation on Saturday, but he has not answered me yet.

Really, thanks for the help! I really appreciate it. Hopefully Julian replies soon.

I am relieved to learn that is a CZ, the proportions were bugging me.

If you don't get an email, just go for it and call directly. I have never purchased from Pearlmans, but MANY PSers have and really speak highly about their customer service. I think if you call and describe the situation + send pics via email, he's sort that out for you lickety split!! I don't think it is anything that can't be resolved, just don't let it slide. With your wedding set, you don't want anything but lovely happy memories associated with it!

Good luck - should go smoothly once you speak with him! :))

Yes, it looks scratched to me, but considering it was a "closeout" of some sort and it's been resized, it's not that surprising (to me anyways). Having said that, you deserve a ring that is in new condition since those are the circumstances under which you purchased it:) It seems like it would be an easy fix by your jeweler - assuming that they return your email.

It is very scratched and the the space would drive me insane, your not nuts! I worked a couple of years ago with Julian. I ordered a setting and then changed my mind and canceled it. He was extremely nice and understanding. I would call directly and speak to him. It is a very customer service oriented store. They will take care of you.

A big thank you to everyone who replied to my post!

I thought I should update a little bit about my situation.

I've been speaking with Julian about fixing up the rings to make them look shiny and new. He says that the scratches were from them being on display for such a long time and that he would re-finish the rings for me when I send them back and I did just that!

Yesterday Julian from Pearlman's Jewelers informed me that the rings have been re-finished, but his jeweler could do nothing about the gap plus the jeweler claims that it's something that could only be seen with magnification. All I could think was... woah... that's not even true because I don't even own a loupe. I'll admit that the gap is small enough that my boyfriend couldn't see it without the pictures, but he's not going to be the one attached to it forever! Maybe if my eyes were a couple years older he might be able to sneak this past me... but as for now, every time I looked at the ring, that gap seemed to be more and more noticeable, it really has to go.

Anyway, Julian tells me that there is no way for me to get a refund on the rings after having it sized. I completely blame his jeweler for agreeing to work on the rings and give me the less-than-perfect workmanship especially on new rings. And then he stood by his mistakes by trying to tell Julian to tell me that those are things that I shouldn't be able to see?

Julian tells me that the rings will be sent to another jeweler who will try to fix the gap for me. I feel awful for giving him so much additional things to do, but I think I deserve rings that are at least "eye-clean" especially since we paid for rings that were supposed to be new! I'm glad Julian and Pearlman's are trying to do everything they can to get me that plus on their dime, but I can't help but feel ripped off that the original jeweler tried to pass this off to us and then stand by it.

For now, it's still a work in progress.
