I am holding a Princess cut and I need to make a decision on it soon. If anyone could tell me whether or not I'm getting a good deal, I would really appreciate it. It is laser inscribed with a GIA cert.

0.71ct
E, VS1
5.38 x 4.81 (1.12 ratio)
68.2% depth
72% table
Extremely Thin to Medium girdle
VG polish
G symmetry
No flourescence
$2600

Thanks again everybody.

Hi Student2,

The price on this diamond seems like a good deal,
but try to find out were the extremely thin portion
of the girdle can be found. If one of the corners
of the princess cut has a razor thin girdle,
than that might be a potential problem if the setter
is not careful.

The measurements of fancy cuts are not as predictable as rounds. Therefore, visual grading tools or personally seeing the stone maybe more conclusive.

How much will the rectangular nature of the stone and it's variable girdle size affect the brilliance of the stone. I've been told by a few B&M places that anything past a 1.05 will leave large dead spots near the center. I've checked the stone and it's thankfully not too thin at the corners. I'm buying it set so how should I check to see if the corners are chipped? Will I be able to see that in the setting? Thanks again for the reply.
