Recently I posted some information regarding a diamond that my boyfriend and I were interested in purchasing for our engagement. From the various feedback I got (from this site and others) the diamond was very good, but not ideal. In fact, it was graded on the HCA as a 2.5. That rated it as a verygood. (worth purchasing if the price is right). This led me to be slightly leery, but not putting it out as a strong contender.

Well... my boyfriend decided to surprise me and purchase it without my knowledge!! (ah..boys

In fact, he proposed to me last night

Of course, having been a lurker for quite some time, my interest in diamonds has increased 10 fold. As a result, I just found myself mesmerized with my new ring! It is a half carat set in white gold. It has very good return of light. It returns white light especially well, making it very bright. I was very happy that some of my previous concerns turned out to be nothing.

Now, my question... At the very middle of my diamond I can see a small white dot. It is not much, and only appears at certain angles. From what I was able to read on this forum, many others faced this issue. However, the majority had only negative things to say about it. Personally, I think it adds something to the diamond. With its white brightness, the small center dot seems to give the diamond a "snowflake" type look.

DOES THIS MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALL? WHY SHOULD I LIKE SOMETHING THAT SO MANY OTHERS SEEM CONCERNED ABOUT? AM I INSANE?

I''m new to this whole diamond thing so I would love some imput!! I just feel crazy for thinking this way!

hehe.. I guess whats important is that I at least snagged the guy!

First and foremost...Congratulations!

Secondly, no, you're NOT crazy! You love your diamond. What's crazy about that????

All the tools and education in the world will never replace your eyes. Seeing is believeing. Tools and education serve as your guide. Enjoy your rock!

I have an I1 stone. At certain angles and in certain lights, I can see the inclusion right in the middle of the table. It doesn't bother me. If I didn't know what it was, I would think it was the round cutlet showing. It just adds to the uniqueness of my stone and it saved us a TON of money.

So, no, you are NOT crazy. Enjoy your stone. It's unique!

You may want to inspect the Colored Gem forum and read Mogok's posts. He also contends that inclusions add to a gem's interest. I definitely agree.

As far as I know, this is not a very unusual opinion to have - understanding what and where from those dots come can be a serious career or hobby, believe me

I guess now I have to start reading up in the Brides Worldwide forum

YIKES!

hey- isn't your stone a round Vs1? I may be wrong, but I doubt there is any way you can see an inclusion with your naked eye.... U sure it's REALLY clean???

No you are not crazy. If you like the diamond and you are pleased with it, then that's all that matters!

Since I've started looking for diamonds for my special lady I've learned a lot about diamonds. I was going off the other day on the idealscope and she commented to me that she hoped all the knowledge and learning wasn't drowning out the excitement of buying a ring for my sweetheart.

She had a point. It's fun to debate diamonds and compare various rocks and settings. Just don't let it get in the way of *your* enjoyment and happiness!

Congrats!!!

I'm not an expert, but you may just be seeing the culet reflections.

yes.. it is a VS1. Its not an inclusion that I am seeing. It seems to be more of the way the light is reflecting back to my eye. Thats all!

your right mmack.. and let me clarify from my previous post....

It seems more to be a result of the culet. (rather than an inclusion)

I say give it to say someone like...me! for example, and go get yourself another!

Hi,

If the spot in the middle of the diamond you are seeing is similar to the spot in the attached photo, it is nothing to worry about.

It is a reflection.

ohhh....

That is what it looks like! Thanks!

I figured it was a reflection, but I suppose I just did not expect it to stand out so much in certain lights. But I think it adds something very nice!

Sorry Norman.

But moremoremore- It's the summer of George!
