Tell me I am crazy... Because I think this will work, but bouncing ideas. I purchased the stone shown from Gene at Precision Gem this evening (a pink sapphire at 1.575 carats SEE HERE), and was thinking this could look quite wonderful in a platinum gypsy ring flanked by two peridots. This is a ring for a man - yes men can rock pink and green if they are confident!

Firstly as soon as I saw the gem I had to own it. Gene says in the description “I would say this is the nicest stone I have cut all year”, which seems high praise given how much love you give him on here!

See the second picture for inspiration with a Tiffany sapphire and Diamond gypsy ring.

Basic reasoning being that the opposite of pink on the color wheel is yellow-green, and that is peridot. Third picture shows the two gems together in a random Google image

If I am not totally insane, what carat size would work for the periodot. I initially thought about 1 carat each would make sense as that is in the Golden Ratio (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_ratio), but would that be a little too big? I’d be looking for equivalent quality peridot to go into this.

Excited to work on this project!567F11C5-B99F-473F-B4DB-44DD4EA3F167.png12097923-CEAB-4D24-B766-97543F8C4254.png

First of all, I’m super excited to see a PSer bought that sapphire. It looked stunning in Gene’s pic and video! :kiss2: I can’t wait to see your pics of it.

Secondly, I love your idea of setting it with green peridot. The pink / green color combo is one of my favorites!

I adore pink and green. They were meant to be together. Cannot wait to see this beauty on your hand. It's going to be a pinkalcious greenlicous combo. Swoon!

The sapphire looks amazingly beautiful! I love your idea for the ring! You could ask Gene if he has any peridot and see if he would cut you a pair in the same cutting pattern. Green garnet could work too. I can’t wait to see what you do with the sapphire!

I alas am not that confident but think it could be very pretty in white metal.

That is a beautiful sapphire.

Rather than a yellow-y peridot, I would go with mint-green chrysoberyls for durability. Tsavorites would be nice, too, but too soft for man's ring, imo. Harder than peridot, though.

Yeah, I am getting less sure about peridot the more I look into it. Gene is so kind, he is send me a few pairs of small peridots to see how the look for no additional charge - what a great guy!

I also wondered if maybe a couple of small emeralds might work too. I am heading to my local stone place next week, and they have hundreds of things in stock (they are a retail presence for Roger Dery, so I think there might be some interesting options). I think the stone should be there by then, so I will take it and get their opinions.

Not crazy at all as I love pairing red and green in real life, in clothes, jewellery and cars!

And I love Gypsy set rings for myself.

Looking forward to see the finished ring.

DK :))

How about ocean blues or purples instead of olive green?

DK :))

That stone is gorgeous! I love Gene's work. I think almost anything will work with it, but I'm a pink junkie. Enjoy!

I reached out to David Klass today to get the ball rolling as the stone arrives tomorrow.

I’m going to send the sapphire to AGL first for a cert. I trust Gene based on all of your praise for him here, but for my own edification I’d rather have the certainty of the certificate.

I’m not settled on the flanking stones yet. It’s been torturous to try and find a pair of tsavorites small enough for the project. I’m asking David to help. I might even go Emerald or something else... who knows!

I love this project. Life is too short not to wear what inspires you and gives you joy. I think it will be a wonderful man's ring.

I love love love pink and green together. In your mock up the green color looks closest to tsavorite which would be another great choice and would be very lively alongside the sapphire.

Peridot almost always has yellow undertones but there is a really lovely peridot green with both yellow and mint undertones that I think would look beautiful.

I can't wait to see this project come to fruition! You are NOT crazy!

No need to give up on Peridot just yet. It does come with varying levels of the yellow modifier, and with varying levels of saturation. I've seen one that rivalled chrome tourmaline in color! Of course the greener stones are more difficult to find and it might take some searching, but your sapphire deserves a spectacular matching pair of greens!

One of the cool things about this color combination is that IMO, to the human eye in real life, the opposite color contrast makes the stones look more saturated.

Your mock-up is lovely! What size are you looking for?
A couple of vendors you could try (if you haven’t already) are Bruce Bridges at Tsavorite USA
and Sukrita of Aurelia Gems/Prima Gems
They both have inventory that you won’t see online.

I contacted Tsavorite, USA but no reply. EDIT - I lie, I will contact Bruce!

I am looking for a nice untreated and well cut round pair, somewhere around 4-4.4mm. Which I know is quite small.

Hopefully Bruce has something for you! I was searching for pretty much the exact thing a couple of months ago and it’s very hard to find a well cut pair in that size. I do know that Sukrita has stones that size, but they are not precision cut. She might be able to pull several of her best pairs for you to choose from. Inken at Enhoerning sources stones, mostly sapphires, rubies and emeralds, and could likely help you if you end up going with emeralds.
I found this pair of tsavorites when searching Etsy, although I have never purchased from this seller.

I love pink and green together. I wouldn’t gypsy set peridot if you go that route though. It’s a softer stone.

If you’re comfortable with peridot on a ring - how about kornerupine?

There’s been a little floating around in the last year or so. Would be a longshot to find someone to cut a pair. But it would be unique for sure!

(Though I’d also vote garnet, minty or tsavorite)

I'm live streaming this one as I get updates and information... This is the first time I've ever gone through designing a ring. I tend to jump both feet first into a hobby, and am really enjoying this so far.

Ok got a triplet of Tsavorites from Bruce. He advised to go with three given that occasionally one might break in the setting process. I think that is reasonable, and the cost is very very reasonable!Tsavorite 0.83 carats 4.1 mm Rounds.JPG

David is going to mail to me a 3D printed plastic version of the ring for me to study in person to see how it all fits together - what a wonderful idea.

I'll add some pictures of the 3D version when it arrives!

Congratulations on your project! Looks beautiful so far!

I got it made! I decided I didn’t like the CAD approach and so got Inken at Enhoerning to make this using a more traditional method!
Came out even better than I could have hoped - and I can’t even begin to describe just how amazing Inken was throughout the process!

Size 8.75 cast in 950 platinum.

Looks beautiful @andrewcarter173
The setting looks gorgeous as does the gems
Hope you post some modeling pics when you get it?

And (wink wink) do you might maybe have anything else to show us from Inken? (Wink wink)
