I''m thinking of branching out into other shapes for my e-ring consideration. I initially wanted an RB because of the sparkle-factor, but as I become more and more educated on this matter, I realize that there are alternatives. I really would like to stick to the round diamonds, but I''ll consider other things. I''m already set on looking at some Solasferas provided I can get down to GoG. Other than the solasfera, and other cuts like the Eighternity, what are some other alternatives that will give as much fire and scintillation as a round brilliant?

I personally wouldn''t pay a price premium to get one of the fancy rb cuts. I love the hearts and arrows cut!

Rich Sherwood has a review of the Leo cut. Good fire and scint.

Yeah, but sold by mall jewelers and overpriced!

Aren''t they (Leo) geared more toward white light return, less fire? I thought I''d read that on here before, but I could be mistaken. If you do a search, there are some threads on them.

I''d go to GOG and see them all, and choose what you like. I haven''t seen the eightstar, or solasfera. I''d take a look at their Square H&A.

That certainly is your best bet since you can see several kinds in one place and determine what you like best in terms of pricing, etc.

If you want to go with round anyway, then IMO you should just stick to an RB.

Aeromax - Not sure if you would be interested but an "oval" shaped diamond might be a viable alternative for you. They often tend to face up bigger than rounds and can be less expensive as well. My friend is actually shopping for an upgrade right now and was convinced she wanted around a 3 ct round ... until she tried on a 2 ct or so oval and loved, loved, loved the finger coverage. It is a different type of sparkle, however, beautiful all the same.
If you are going to do round and don''t want any of the other shapes, I would suggest staying with plain round unless you had a particular reason or preference for one of the fancy rounds.

Just thought I would share my 2 cents. Good luck with your continued search!

If I were to get a round, I would get a H&A. If I were going with a really large RB, I may consider some of the extra facet cuts.

I chose a cut-cornered Square H&A (the Princess of Hearts) because I wanted RB type of sparkle but didn''t want a RB. I was also considering a cushion but when the PoH became available, I loved the cut corners and the H&A RB-ish sparkle!

I wouldn''t pick any other round shape over a traditional round shape. I really just don''t like busier cuts. However, if you like squares I would definitely check out the square hearts and arrows cut or a regent cut. They still have a great sparkle factor.

Since there is indeed a price premium for the proprietary cuts as you all say, then I probably won''t give it much more thought, although I will try to go to GoG for looks, since I wanted to get down there anyway.
