Hello! This is my first post (longtime lurker). I recently got engaged (yay!) and received a beautiful 2.04 ct RB from BN set in the tapered cathedral setting for larger diamonds:

The problem is that I think the 2.5 mm is too wide for my finger. A local jeweler said they could file it down on the sides to about 2mm, and I was wondering if anyone here knew if it was possible. I''d rather not have the ring reset, as my fiance chose the setting and it is special to me, but I feel like the band is just a smidge too wide. Thanks in advance for your help!

Totally possible. All it takes is a file, and the patience to repolish it properly.

P.S. - Congratulations, and I hope you post pictures - that sounds beautiful!

Err... until it hits the base of the prongs. I do not think there is a way that the shank can be reduce to 2mm without affecting the integrity of the head at that area.

Good point, Stone-cold - I''m assuming any jeweler worthy of his or her loupe will know to leave the prongs and their base be, but just in case, point that out when you bring it in!

It is hard to tell from the images on BN ... it looks to me like that part of the shank is more narrow anyway, to accommodate the way the cathedral setting tapers as it approaches the stone. Am I crazy on that?

Thank you for your help. I have some photos, i just need to get them off the camera and into the computer. You are right, it does taper more towards the prongs.
