Altering a platinum wedding band

I'm torn between two possible solutions to my wedding band dilemma. First, is that I could purchase a simple platinum wedding band from Blue Nile (attached file). Second, is that I could have have a similar wedding band, with 7 .04 carat diamonds distributed evenly around the band, with a "hammer setting" so they are relatively flush.

My question then, is if I were to purchase the simple band and then change my mind, could I take the wedding band to a jeweler and have them set diamonds into the platinum, or would that have an adverse affect of the wedding band's strength?

as long as the band is thick enough and wide enough - but why not let the jeweller do the whole project so they are totally responsable
