Wow! This video is excellent. What a difference just making the part wider, and lighter, made! I loved to have seen what dry shampoo would have done to tone down the shiny look.

@jeaniefish, I had the same problem with the shine on synthetic wigs. I bought one that looked beautiful in the store. It looked so natural when I tried it on. (She sold me a band new wig in a box saying it was the same wig). Got it home and it looked like Barbie doll hair. This was about 8 years ago. I’m going to try some dry shampoo and see it that helps with the shine. I’m not expecting much because the hair quality just isn’t good. The wig style looks very similar to the one you posted. The funny thing is this wig looks beautiful and natural sitting on the wig holder. it’s a whole different story when it’s on my head. Do you have a small face? I’m finding having a small face/head is also a problem.

If you look at wigs.com they also have different woman wearing and talking about the wigs you are looking at. They list their instagram names. I’ve learned a lot from their instagrams too. Wigs.com have sales pretty often too. Synthetic wigs can be pricey too.

Yes! I definitely feel fancier in curls but my family has always said that curls soften my features and seem to highlight the good bits.

I did feel rather fabulous in the super long, straight warm brown wig with highlights that I wore over the weekend though which is rare for straight hair. I feel all warm n fuzzy in the right wig! It’s like I’m going about my business but there’s little moments of “Omg squeeeeee look at this fabulous hair that I would never ever have on my head otherwise.” My friend (who is super fed up with dying her greys) says whenever she sees me running around in a wig, she’s so tempted to go there but she balks when she puts one on her head and hasn’t made peace with it yet.

Sooooo adventure today. Haha this was so silly

I was tutoring a rather cheeky child who begged and begged me to take off my wig in front of him because he couldn’t remember what my real hair was anymore and he really wanted to see what the wig looked like.

So I promised him I would do it after he finished his lesson. As promised I whipped my wig off and proceeded to explain to him the components (wig grip, why my hair was in pig tails etc).

He was stunned for a few minutes at looked like he was going to cry.

M: You ok bud? You’re not going to cry right? I’ll have to explain to your mum why I made you cry.

LB: Wow……I was not expecting that. I’m rattled.

M (laughing): Ha! Is it my real hair that’s scaring you or seeing the wig?

LB: You just ripped it off. And I was expecting the same hair underneath. But it’s not the same. It’s so different.

M: haha you mean it’s straggly underneath? Well if you think about it, if I had all this nice hair, why would I wear this wig on top?

LB: And you ripped it off like a cartoon. No one does that!

M (laughing): But you asked me to!

LB: I’m ok now. I’ve recovered! Can you wear a blonde wig next week?

M: I don’t think you’re ready for that sweetie.

Missy has given you all the shine minimising tips but I’m offended that it’s shiny at all. It shouldn’t be!!!

LOL yes! But unfortunately synthetic fibers are often shiny when new. And also synthetic wigs do not last nearly as long as human hair wigs. Not sure if we touched upon that but for the most part if one wears their synthetic wig daily it can last up to 6 months depending of course on how careful you are etc. So that time frame will vary but as a general rule synthetic does not last as long as human hair which can if taken care of properly last for years.

How much did you spend on it Jeanie? Because it shouldn’t shine! Mine are on average $15 after tax from China and they don’t shine at all.

Speaking of shine, omg this wig offended me so much! I looked up the prices for it and the shine is horrific for the price! Love Steph though! This is a good video for tips on how to make it look less wiggy.

These were $15. Definitely no shine.



I’d say of all the colours, red probably has a tendency to be shinier than the other shades but shouldn’t look like the wig in the video I linked.

Thanks! Those are all very helpful tips. I am still leaning toward sending this wig back but I have another less expensive wig on the way . I may try the dry shampoo on that one , since I will likely be keeping that wig to play around with.
There is a small wig store here in my city that has been in business 20+ years and I just might heck it out. The owner offers a complete service on the wigs she sells, fitting,styling, etc. All the other stores here seem to be more beauty supply type stores. Will post again if something works out for me, or maybe even if it doesn’t! If I could look half as good in a wig as you and @mellowyellowgirl do, I’d be totally happy!

I think brown black is too black on me!!! Wore it to school today and it felt so dark! I feel like I personally react less to the lighter shades but I wonder if it’s too adventurous for school. It was so comfortable though! I can’t believe I’m actually at a place where I forget to take my wig off until I do something greasy like cooking! I am usually pretty sensitive (can’t wear linen, wool etc two minutes in my skin crawls and I’m howling from the itches).

Maybe I’ll go with the browns although AliExpress browns tend to run cool and I prefer warmer ones. Decisions, decisions!

Buy a spare if it is not expensive and you can easily do so. I do that with everything I love if it is possible. Store it away from heat and light until you need it

Mine looks good on day one, and on day two, it looks its best—very thick, softened-up curls, reasonably well behaved. Day three, curls are slightly flattened from sleeping on it (even though I use silk pillow cases), and day four, it’s a fresh shampoo.

Aww thank you both! It is very fine and not thick at all but the curls/waves give the impression it is thicker than it is. My mom and grandma's hair was very fine too. We don't have thick hair in our family but my sister's hair is much less thin than mine...her hair looks very full and beautiful. I never had that but it's OK ! And as for washing hair I hear you...I no longer wash my hair daily but every two or three days. Made a huge difference. And no need to color it because I always wear alternative hair if we go out so now my hair is healthier than ever though I never used permanent dye anyway. Always temporary. It's weird but my hairdresser was on point. I will never be all gray. He called it. I have not used any temp dye on my hair for over a year now and there is not much gray at all. Not salt and pepper like I was hoping for but more dark brown with some gray highlights. I don't know how Tuey knew I would never be all gray. My mom is salt and pepper and my grandma was all gray.

Hehe wig is still sitting in my basket and I’m still waiting for my $3 off at the beginning of the month.

Hubby is like: Dude people spend hundreds of dollars on wigs just pay the $27 and stop quibbling!

I think the AliExpress algorithm was rewarding me for my reviews so when the new range of wigs was launched they kept offering me wigs at $12-$15 dollars. After I bought a tonne they’ve all reverted to the $27-$30 now. Haha I know it’s foolish but having bought it for $15 I feel salty spending $27! I will buy it eventually! It was such a hit with the younguns at school. One girl was so cute! She was like: At first I thought you had access to a great hairdresser and could get your hair styled, dyed or straightened every week but then when you went from the short curly to the dead straight long hair, I knew something was up.

My “true hair” came in! The family was underwhelmed.

Family: It looks like a thicker perfectly straight version of your hair. If you’re going to wear a wig, why don’t you wear a cuter, more fun one.

Me: I can wear this to job interviews

Me: I’ll wear this on days when I’m not feeling confident and want to blend in!

Family: How often do you feel the need to blend in? When was the last time you balked about your wigs?

My newest alternative hair did arrive and I LOVE it...quick try this morning on photo for you because it's been such a busy (good) week and when I have more time I will take better photos. It is longer than I thought it would be but such a natural density and length..it's perfect for me especially during our very hot summer...I have to run but loving all your hair. You ladies are going to smack me but I think I’ve finally run out of wigs to buy! There I said it! I’m going to buy a spare of the long one with the fabulous high lights above (finally getting my $3 off) and that’s it. Although the girls at school are begging me to buy a pink wig and I’m like “It’s not appropriate for class!!!”

So my (maybe) last wig came in! I like it! The family liked it and that’s a big deal since they are not big fans of “true hair” wigs. They all say this cut suits me more. The (synthetic) hair quality is the same, they are from the same release only the cut is different.



I am loving my wigs so much and my Gen Z friends are having fun along with me. They put in hair requests and are genuinely excited when I debut something different. They were debating whether the true hair wig was better than the high lights wig. One person loves my Sally Walden wig. I’m surprised she even remembers it.

It’s like….always leaving the house with salon quality hair. I don’t think I can go back!!!

One of my acquaintances is a massive Temu fan but I just do not trust Temu! For some reason I think AliExpress is the best but totally side eye Temu. I think it just comes down to whatever our comfort levels are.

This was before my cataract surgery and now I miss all my funky glasses because I don't need them. In fact I donated them all to charity for children in need who cannot afford prescription eyewear. So at least it is going to a good cause!

The wig is still sitting on the wig stand. I’m trying not to wear it until the wedding we are going to. After that I plan to wear it often.

I haven’t been focused on this at all lately. I’ll make a decision in a few weeks and probably get more hair added so if the style falls again, it will look a little thicker. Finding the perfect hair density will probably be a little more challenging than I thought it would be.

Gah! I'm looking at your pearls, and your rings, especially the emerald (if that's what it is) on your left hand. Plus, the hair is lovely, but the blingy stuff caught my eye first. Happy "cool" Christmas.
