aligning the H&A pattern with the setting

Has anyone with a H&A stone requested that the arrows align with the mounting? I don''t know if it makes a noticeable difference, but I thought it may look better if I had the diamond set so the arrows are at 3 6 9 and 12 o''clock in relation to the ring itself.
Any opinions?

I agree Kirk.
The 4 prong heads are in an 'X' pattern and the arrows would be in a '+ '
in relation to the mount so the prong heads would be in between the arrow points.
I was curious if people specifically asked for this when their stone was set
or if they just let the chips fall where they may?

Make certain to specify this to your setter, because it is not a commonly asked question.

Also make equally as certain that if you buy a diamond with a laser inscription to have the setter
not cover up the inscription with any of the prongs.

Hi Liz,

The reason I mentioned the positioning, is because
this way people can easily see the arrows, in their H&A's.

And Joe_Q, was looking for a more technical approach
to setting a diamond with this pattern...

It really isn't a big deal, but, if your a stickler
for detail, than I would advise to have your setter position the diamond in such a way, so that the arrow heads are plainly visable, and not hidden by the prongs...

This may not always be possible, depending on what type of setting you use, and the number of prongs in it.

Even with a simple 4 prong setting I doubt if you can avoid each arrow head, but its something to ponder over.

Hi Liz,

Yes, it can be very difficult to set the prongs
in between the arrows, for a multitude of reasons.

1.)The prongs on each setting vary in thickness
and distance apart.

2.)The size of the diamond will play a role in where
the prongs fall. Some prongs are so thick, that they can overlap more than one arrow point.

3.)A laser inscription will also play a role in the positioning of the diamond.

These are only a few examples, but I'm sure you get the idea.

What Joe_Q has suggested can be done, but would also be
very difficult to achieve, given all the variables involved.

We've had the request before quite a few times.

It is not always easy to acheive and if Vatche is doing the setting of the job sometimes by the time the setter gets the job, from the time you've told the salesperson at Vatche the message does not get relayed. Certain special setting jobs we'll do ourselves. You can actually see it on this page here.

If you scroll down to the Vatch X prong #801 and also the 3 stone truffle #902 you'll see the arrows between the prongs (not done in the 3,6,9, 12 positions).

I have the perfect example of what we
were talking about...

I have attached an image below for a Vatch'e

Notice how exacting the positioning of the arrow
heads are, in relation to the prongs.

There have been times when we've specified this to Vatche and it didn't come back as exact as we'd like and have had to send it back. They are only human. More than often however they do get it right though. All settings our guaranteed of course.

I've spoken to Greg Gates at RingDesigner.com and he assures me it can and will be done as I've requested. After reading up on settings on his website and talking to him personally, buying from Greg was really a no brainer. Excellent info on buying platinum settings. Great guy to deal with.
