I had originally gathered quotes together for a bezel setting + baguette halo + plain shank for this spessartite, but it quickly became apparent that this was going to be a very $$$$$$ endeavour if I went that route. Leon, WF, and BGD were all much higher than expected, so I decided to scrap that idea and just wait until my 20th anniversary when I can afford the original Daniel K with a 2.5 ct. diamond.

So, I took a new stab at it, and had a setting I had laying around reenvisioned for my spess. It's a Jewe2004 setting that had a super high head, but my jeweler custom made a head to fit, and lowered it quite a bit. Intended as a temporary setting, I am kind of liking how simple it looks from the top. The profile's still higher than I'm used to, but it's bright and sparkly, and because it's a thin shank, the spess looks pretty big in it.

Resizing kind of made the pics look a little darker, but it's nothing but bright orange in person.

On my left hand because 90% of the right hand shots were blurry!

Very pretty!

I LOVE this setting! Looks great!

Thanks, MTG and Ara Ann!

I was sort of iffy on the cathedral setting because I really wanted the shoulders to meet the basket, but I think I''ll live with it for a while to see if it bothers me.

Oh, I love it! The setting is very pretty also.

Very nice Lauren, I love how your jeweler does the pointy prongs. Now you can wear your piece of sunshine!

OMG ! That is really wonderful. And what a great fall color.

I saw this and logged back in to say this.

Did you pick the stone yourself or did you ask AJS to recommend?

Very pretty ring for fall. Nice color.

I agree with your strategy to get the stone set sooner, rather than later. It doesn't do much good just laying in a box.

I think it looks GREAT in that setting. Love the photos with the orange. I''d just keep it in that setting for a while.

I bet your quotes for other settings were high because gold is so high!

It is completely gorgeous!! I love the cut on that stone, along with the simple classic look from the top. Can you give us a full profile shot to see that beautiful band under the cathedral arms?

I like it Lauren, I like it a lot! You''ve got a great eye for stones!

Wow that turned out great. The setting and stone really work well together.

Very pretty, LTP! I love the color of the spess.

TL - thank you! I''ve been wearing it all day. I find I''m going to quickly be out of orange clothes.

Sonomacountry - thank you for your kind words! I was in a thread with TL and Chrono complaining about the lack of good rough for a Spess Asscher, and Chrono linked me to this one on AJS. I jumped on it when I saw additional pics and didn''t see the dreaded brown I see in my other mandarins.

Fly Girl - truer words haven''t been spoken. I have enough really cool gemstones in a box, but this one has been my favourite in a long time. I''m so glad I get to wear it! Thank you!

Stone Hunter - thank you! God was a problem, but the custom cut baguettes were an even bigger problem. WF quoted me nearly $7k for the setting, and BGD could only estimate the cost of the setting without diamonds.

Thank you, Uppy! I attached a profile shot for you! Still needs a bit of polishing, but given the massive amount of modification it needed, not bad for a 2 day job.

Cellantini, Ltlfirecracker, Catmom, LovingGems, Marcyc, and Skippy - thank you for your lovely words, my lovely ladies!

Lauren,

I really like that setting, and the spess is magnificent! I love it that you let the spess be the queen (king?)!

What a delicious colour Lauren!! And I love in in that setting!!!
