With news of AGSL merging with GIA and concerns over how much info on cut will be disclosed on the grading reports going forward, I wanted to see if there are any more AGSL graded diamonds I would consider buying before the ship sails. Ritani‘s listings for AGSL graded lab diamonds were attractively priced and I found a pair to go in earrings. Given that these are from virtual inventory, I avoided diamonds with dark inclusions and noticeable grain in the videos, and chose the biggest matching pair with the best looking ASET and optical precision maps in the reports.

Ritani’s online earrings builder auto matches diamond pairs with the same carat, color, and clarity. Picking individual diamonds was not an option. A quick LiveChat with a Ritani rep, giving them the SKUs I wanted, took care of it. The order was placed on a Monday and Ritani quoted an estimated delivery on next Tuesday. It was overnighted next Monday and it arrived on the estimated delivery date. The turnaround was impressively quick, but I wish Ritani spent more time with the setting. The diamonds are secure in the baskets, but the prongs are somewhat uneven and one is noticeably larger. It’s not a huge issue considering they are not that noticeable once they are worn on ears, but I would definitely consider another vendor for a ring setting.
On a positive note, the bigger prong makes it easier to identify the individual diamonds. The diamonds perform as well as the Brian Gavin Blues and Premium Labs we own, at a fraction of the price for comparable sizes. If you are open to buying lab diamonds, are willing to sort through virtual inventory, and don’t need buyback or upgrade policies, then Ritani is definitely a vendor to consider.
On to the photos, I’m comparing ~1 ctw Brian Gavin Blues I color VS clarity medium flour in bezels from BGD next to ~2.4 ctw D/E color VVS clarity CVD in 4-prong baskets from Ritani. ~5.17 mm smaller natural diamonds vs ~6.84 mm larger lab diamonds. The larger lab pair costs less!
See the bigger prong? That is the E with the fatter arrows. One of the I colors is more tinted than the other one, and the difference in tint is bigger than between the D and E. The D/E stays white pretty much in all lighting whereas the I colors take on more of a chameleon like quality depending on lighting.
The stems are shorter and slimmer on the Ritani settings. The pushbacks are comically small in comparison with BGD’s.
