Could you give me your opinion on an AGA certification? I'm deciding between two stones of extremely similar specifications - one with an AGA cert and the other with a GIA cert. The AGA-certified stone is approximately $1,100 cheaper. I'm wondering if the certification is the reason for the lower cost.

Have you looked at David's website or called him? http://www.gemappraisers.com/

David Atlas posts here as oldminer and as far as I have seen he is quite well respected in the industry.

The GIA report and our AGA report should be very similar in accuracy. We make an effort to be "right". GIA reports cost the trade a lot more than our reports and the GIA has world wide credibility. That may be the $1,100 difference for the most part.

Be sure to look hard at each stone to pick the one you like best. Remember, AGA generally grades the cut, GIA never does.
