Some of you may recall me posting (here) about being laid off last week. Well, after crunching numbers and talking it over with the hubs, I just went ahead and enrolled in the first course through GIA. :read: I'm about to get schooled on all things shiny!

Happy days ahead for you. Good luck with your studies.

Sorry about your job but this sounds like a very exciting new adventure!

Good luck to you!!

How exciting!! Good for you to find a positive way to move forward during a time that can feel unsettling and overwhelming.

Please do keep us posted on how the GIA courses are...I’m very curious

Basically everything that @shoechick said! What an exciting time for you!

On the selfish side :evil2:, I hope you aren't considered a trade member too soon as we plebs will totally miss your contributions to threads on specific stones, etc. :lol-2:

Best wishes for successful studies. Please start a thread on your studies and what you find fascinating. It would be helpful for others who may find themselves considering gemological studies.:read:

Wow, how exciting!! Good for you. :appl:

I wish you much success. =)2

Awesome! :read:

Wow! Congratulations! Which course are you taking?

Thanks, y’all! It’s so awesome to feel the support. :kiss2:

Aww, you’re so sweet!!! It’ll be awhile before I can add “trade”, so count me in until then.

Wow! Congratulations! Which course are you taking?
I’m taking everything for the graduate gemologist, starting with diamond essentials first.

Awesome! Please do let us know how the GG curriculum is. I know that's been the dream for more than one PSer!

How exciting! :D

:clap:I am so excited for you. I would love to do that some day!

Best of luck to you, how excited you must be! Let us know how it is.
I’d love to do it one day as well.

How fun!!! Please keep us updated on how you are doing.

How very exciting!!! Go learn all kinds of good stuff!!!

Best wishes for your GG. As a PSer you should breeze through the Diamond Essentials class. The fun begins when the GIA sends you diamonds to plot and grade.
The Gem ID class is pretty intense. You practice using gemological instruments e.g. refractometer, dicroscope, etc. to identify unknown gems. The final is an open book 20-stone test, misidentify one and you fail.
@Wink and I have talked about this and he knew students who failed.
Have fun.

*gulp* Okay, I wasn’t nervous before, but now I’m a wee bit. I don’t know anything about CS but I guess I will just have to work extra hard during that part in hopes I can pass.

The colored stone classes were pretty interesting. You will be fine.

Oh wow! Sounds like you are going to have a good time!

Excited for you as you begin this new journey, life is funny with the twists and turns it takes you where you need to be even if you didn't plan on being there ;-)

That sounds so fun!!!! Happy and excited for you! Little bit jelly too, lol!

Congratulations on your new direction. It’s a lot of fun learning all about gemstones and very useful as a PSEr!

I just passed my first test. :mrgreen2: This is very interesting!
