AF ACA vs. BGD Signature --- Are you a Spock vs. Kurk?

I'm just curious, I've never purchase from either WF or BGD but I have contacted and worked with both briefly in an attempt to locate a stone. You seem very awe struck by Brian, and while I agree that he is a very talented man and has cut some beautiful stone, why though, you think that his work is superior to so many other amazing cutters out there? Is it simply because of the feedback you've gotten from pricescope? Or have you actually researched different cutters and reputations and chose Brian above all others? I'm just asking out of curiousity, there have been others that have posted here believing that his stones were somehow superior to other vendors and I'm not sure why that is.

I think that you made a great decision going with the WF diamond and I'm sure that they won't disappoint you. =)

Gypsy that first setting you posted is just beautiful! Where is it from?

It's Caprine Sun's ERD e-ring CAD.

Thank you Laila!

Whoops sorry. I thought you meant the first baguette setting I posted, but the first one with the marquise-- so not Caprine Sun's. Yes, that is hers and it has ZERO execution problems. It's being done right now by ERD.

Re: why I was impressed by Brian

I think it comes from all the articles I've read of his contributions to refining the H&A cut. There are also a couple of YouTube videos with him talking about the HCA tool and his time in S. Africa. When we spoke over the phone, I grilled him with very technical questions on HCA and cut angles and light return and he seemed like an expert in his field.

Further, he talked about some of his angles and search criteria, which seemed different from Alot of "ideal" stones out there so there seemed like a real difference (visual, probably just splitting hairs tho) Also, one of the BGD sales folk used to work at WF and says that some ACA stone standards these days are not as rigorous. Finally, since he supposedly hand picks all his stones. It seemed like more personalized and a cooler story to tell. Rather than oh, I just found a good deal on some website.

My two cents :p

Thanks supernova. I hope I didn't sound critical, it wasn't my intent, I was just curious as to why some people thought of him as superior to some other very talented cutters. Thanks for your input. =)

Brian certainly is an expert. When you think about it that way we get to rub elbows with some pretty nifty groups of people here on/through PS - Paul Slegers of Crafted by Infinity and Bruce Harding contribute here on the forum, and Karl K (formerly strmdr), who created the Octavia, and Yoram F (DiaGem), who cuts the Octavia, GOG's AV lines, and DBL's antique cushions, are regular features, as is Sergey S (serg) who chairs Octonus, the company that developed the DiamCalc programme...
