Hi ,
This is my very first post after lurking in the shadows and admiring a lot of members blings for a loooong time!

I'm in desperate need of advise as to which stone to purchase. I previously had a princess cut and at one point i was leaning towards getting a cushion but I couldn't find anything I liked, so now I'm looking at round brilliant.

There are two stones I am interested in and need advise as to which one would I be better off purchasing. Both stones are almost the same price but I am able to upgrade one of the stones later on.

1) 1.01ct D/VS1
-GIA cut, polish and symmetry= excellent
-depth: 60.5
-table: 56
-crown: 34
-pavilion: 40.8
-no fluorescence
-able to upgrade later if I decide to

2) 1.55ct G/VS1
-GIA cut, polish and symmetry= excellent
-depth: 60.9
-table: 58
-crown: 34
-pavilion: 41
-no fluorescence
-not upgradeable

Looking forward to some replies..

This is pretty easy...the 1.5 G VS1. It is significantly larger than the other stone. What is the price of the 1.5?

Agree, the 1.55 G.

My "big" diamond is a 1.5 F, and it is not upgradable. No problem for me since I decided that if I want a bigger ring, I get a colored gemstone instead.

I was thinking of getting the 1.55ct but then my hubby decided to bring up not being able to upgrade it.

The price of the 1.55 is around aud$17K (usd$17,800 today's exchange rate) . Is that a good price? What do you think of the specs of the stone?

Extra info on the 1.55ct:
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick, Faceted (3.0%)
Culet: None

Can it not be upgraded because your husband won't let you, or because of the store policy?

I would get the larger diamond.

Hi Dreamer,
It's store policy. My husband is all up for upgrading. He told me last night he's willing to keep upgrading until I get sick of it..lol! I don't think that would ever happen.

Smart man.

find a place with 1.55 G VS1 stone with upgrade policy? Where do you live?

I'm located in Australia. I really like this store because their upgrade policy is fantastic, they'll credit you how much you purchased your diamond. There's really no other store like that, that i know of, here in Australia that does that.

I would tell the sales person that i will buy the 1.5c stone if they add their upgrade policy to it. If not you have found another comparable stone at another vendor and will buy theirs instead. and then walk out if they don't give you their upgrade policy. Or speak to the manager or owner. Seems strange they will not upgrade the GIA 1.5c stone. As long as the stone is eye clean a lower clarity will just save you $$.

Then I would buy a stone from an online vendor that has a lifetime upgrade policy...even if you are in Australia.

I gather the 2 stones are at different stores?
If you are at all considering upgrading again in the future or changing to another shape etc I would not get a stone that doesn't allow an upgrade. Particularly as hour husband sounds very happy with the idea.
Have you asked the store with the upgradeable D if they are expecting any other stones in soon, or could they get one in for you that would qualify for their upgrading program. Maybe there is a 1.3 carat F in the process of being brought in, you don't know if you don't ask.

Thank you everyone for your advise. I have decided to wait for the store to bring in more stock. I will wait until I find something I like which I can upgrade in the near future.
