I have found a 1.2 carat diamond from a wholesaler - who supplies cartier, tiffany, etc. he says the price he can give me is way better than I can find at those stores. please give me your opinion - i am just starting to learn about diamonds so I don't know if this is really a good deal:
this is the GIA report:
1.2 carat, round brillant cut
6.81 x 6.86 x 4.17
depth: 61%
table: 60%
girdle: medium
cutlet: none
polish: very good
symmetry: very good
clarity: SI1
color: H
floresence: faint

even though its a SI1 he said its really almost a VS2 - i saw the inclusions on the GIA report and there are only 2 really tiny ones and they are under the table - I could not see them at all under magnification.

the price: $7500. I have seen diamonds at a bunch of places and this one really did visually stand out - very sparkly, but how does this price look for a 1.2 carat of this quality? also, what do women think of this size - I don't want gaudy, but I do want a good sized ring.
thanks in advance!

You can find a similar diamond much cheaper online. Go to pricescope and do a search. Ignore the "special wholesaler deal". He is selling you retail. Read the information on pricescope and educate yourself before choosing a diamond. Note the importance of diamond cut in determining how beautiful a diamond will be.

If you are going to try to buy in person, buy an ideal scope (see the menu bar above) and take it with you. Look at diamonds in natural outdoor lighting, indoor lighting and in dim lighting if you can. A good retailer will let you do this. Everything sparkles under the blinding spot lighting found in most jewelry stores. You can learn a lot and make an informed purchase by reading the articles, tutorial and posts on this site. Feel free to ask your questions here.

:)

If you are shopping then you need an ideal-scope so that you can really see past the store lighting.

At 60-61% this is not likely to be the best diamond you will find.

Ask for a Sarrin report and enter the ANGLES into HCA and you will proabbly get around +3 as a score.

I think you should definitely pass on this 'wholesale deal'
look what you could get for your money...all of these will sparkle more than that diamond.

It's 2 grades higher in clarity, Ideal Cut with Hearts and Arrows, and the same diameter.

Or you can get this
1.168 F SI1 A Cut Above from whiteflash.com
$7286* special pricescope price

the crown angle: 33.5
pavillion: 41.

I entered these numbers into the holloway cut adiviser (w/ the above depth of 61 & table of 60), and got 1.2. so it looks like a really good diamond afterall - no?

Hi NycGuy... :)

Proportions are nice but I'm with Buttercup - you can find similar stone for about 2,000$ less or much better diamond for this price.
