Advice Requested: 2 Stones

Hello! I am looking at an engagement ring for my girlfriend and have found two stones in person with a family jeweler. I’d like help deciding which is a better value.

I found one stone which is in my budget $17.5k total -

1.7ct E/VS1 XXX Faint Flor - $16.8k


However - I am based in NYC and it seems the average stone here is a bit larger and the feedback I’ve gotten from friends and coworkers would be to go larger upfront.

Another option I am considering is the below - seems to be a bit lower in quality and cut rating (per stonealgo). I’ve seen both in person and it’s a little more grey and less shiny but it’s still very nice but it’s a bit more of a stretch.

2.03ct F/VS2 XXX Faint Flor - $22k


Looking for expert opinion here what to do and if both stones are good value.

One last piece of info - my girlfriend is a size 4 ring and this would be set in a solitaire setting.

I would not choose either of the ones you posted from James Allen. Others have recommended diamonds that would be much better in my opinion.

Not really unfortunately. Is something about the ratio off?

I highlighted how much of the stones are dark. You want more brightness overall. The ones @lovedogs posted have edge-to-edge brightness and organized light return. Hope this helps.
