Advice please...

My boyfriend and I are in the last stages of purchasing a diamond and setting. We are having the ring appraised and were asked to give the certificates that came with the diamond. I told my boyfriend to tell them we would rather have them appraise it without the help of the certs. Was this a good idea, or am I being too picky? Do a lot of independant appraisers ask for the diamond certs? Thanks!!

They shouldn't need any certs from previous appraisals... I can't imgaine them asking for such a thing...? I've read some jewelers might try to get stones appraised more than once, hoping for a higher score the second time around. Sneaky jewelers.
