Hello there new to forum , recently purchased a 0.50 solitare ring for a planned Engagement, I ordered online the Gia was meant to be excellent cut, I received very good cut but the the colour is rated one higher than I ordered, chatted online with company who I bought it off, they told me the colour will help show it off more due to it being abit whiter, but I'm more concerned about cut, I'm not expert though so I don't know what to do, I can get it changed if I want but it's an inconvenience. Thanks dan

Hey Dan,
I’d be very uncomfortable with a company essentially selling me one diamond and sending another. Around here; cut is king. Even a triple excellent diamond often does not make “the cut” for what we ideally look for in a diamond. “Very good” cut is a deceptive term...because it’s basically not very good at all. What company are you using? We can recommend many trustworthy vendors if you’d like.

I’m not personally familiar with this shop, but my guess is they’re not focused on a customer base that is looking for “super ideal” parameters for their diamond. Most consumers are told by jewelers that triple x will get them perfection...which is false. In your case you’re being told that a higher color will, “show it off more.” This couldn’t be further from the truth...a very well cut diamond will face up whiter than its poorly cut counterpart in most cases when the colors are only a grade off. A well cut diamond will outshine a whiter diamond of poor cut any day and in a variety of lighting conditions.

That being said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Since you have the stone currently in your possession you can make a judgement as to how beautiful it is to you. if you’d take a picture of the GIA cert and perhaps post some close up photos of the diamond we will be able to better advise you.

I would demand a refund, because they sold you one thing and then gave you a different (and objectively less valuable)

Agree with PP. A refund is in order, if for principal if nothing else. A higher color does not “make up” for a lower cut. A “very good” cut GIA graded diamond sells for much less than an “excellent“ cut and color does not make up for that. This is a bait and switch tactic and I wouldn’t even bother trying to work with this vendor . I would suggest you demand a refund and post your budget and requirements here for suggestions. GL

Provided that it hasn't been more than 14 days since receipt of an online purchase, customers are entitled, generally speaking, to a full refund of the purchase price under UK consumer protection regulations. And where Rox errs by not delivering what was ordered, it looks like the customer is also entitled to reimbursement of the costs of both the shipping to the customer & the return shipping to Rox:

In other words, customers generally do not have to accept an exchange or store credit in lieu of an outright refund. The stated exception, set forth in the first paragraph of that Returns page: if the order is for something "specially made to order or personalized to your requirements."

But even if the ring could be deemed a special order, I agree with those who are encouraging you to seek a full refund of the purchase price. This isn't a matter of buyer's remorse; you did not receive what you paid for.
