I have a 1 ct princess-cut diamond engagement ring in a basic cathedral-style platinum setting. It was purchased about 2 years ago at a mall store.

I love my diamond, but my dilemma is that I have never truly loved the setting. I was hoping someone might have advice about getting a new setting. Do I just need to buy a new setting separately and get the diamond re-set, or is there any hope of trading in, or getting any value out of the setting I have? Am I likely to have better luck going back to the store I originally purchased it at?

I know platinum prices are sky high right now so I''m hoping that it''s not completely worthless if I change the setting.

Thank you in advance for your advice!

Actually, Pt price is higher 2 years ago than it is now.

You should be able to recoup some of the cost of the old setting, either by selling it (obviously without the stone) or else perhaps trading it as "scrap" metal. Not sure which would be more financially profitable for you.

You would get your best value going back to where you bought the ring. Usually they will give you full credit towards something that costs twice as much. I don''t know who the mall jeweler is but check online and see who their parent company is and what chains they own. (I mention this because I''ve traded things from Kays in a Jareds for full price amd Jared''s actually sells semi mounts and Kays does not.)

Thank you all for your advice!
