Hi,

I found an individual on Diamond Talk with an uncertified diamond for sale and would like some of your expert advice on this as well as what a fair price might be. The person had two independent reports done (not sure by who)and these were the results. I was told the diamond was in an antique setting and the SI2 grading is due to some chipping from age but that with a recut and polish it would easily be a VS1. I was also told the recut/polish would cost about $200.

I appreciate any advice you may have.

What's her offer?

Looks like an average stone... If the price is right, it may be worthy of a recut... So my understanding is that the stone was graded as mounting permits?

It would be a 'really' good idea to have the diamond sent to one of the independent GIA Graduate Gemologists for your own 'independent' evaluation prior to purchasing the diamond to verify the quality and characteristics of the diamond, especially with an SI-2 clarity diamond because this is one of the broadest range of clarity characteristics and quite often contain inclusions which can be of detriment to the durability of the stone...

She was asking $8000
