I'm a bit overwhelmed with all this and think I've done my proper research but would like some thoughts on this diamond? I'm unable to see in person prior to purchase. It has a HCA score of 1 and seemed to be priced well relative to similar sized and speced stones. Thank you!
do you have a video or any pics? It's a 60/60 style diamond rather than a traditional ideal cut (which is fine, but just make sure you've looked into the differences in overall look).
That's what I'm unsure about, is the differences in look, am am hoping someone can elaborate? This is for an engagement ring. How would a 60/60 style differ in appearance vs a traditional cut? It's going to be set in a platinum pave ring. BN has a 360* video but am unsure of how to save and upload it.
60/60 diamonds favor white light return at the expense of fire. What most of us like is a balance between brilliance and fire. Some people love them and that’s great, different strokes, but once you see what a well cut diamond is capable of doing anything less can be dissappointing.
This would be a no for me. I do not find stones whose tables are larger than their depth to be attractive, and the very short crown height is definitely not my cup of tea. It’s just not going to be pretty, IMO, sorry to be a downer. The reason it is priced well as compared to smaller stones, etc., is because of these less than desirable elements.
I would go to a store and see if they have a 60/60 style in stock. Call first. See if you like how that type performs.
I am not suggesting you buy a Crafted by Infinity, but they sell those in stores. That is considered a super ideal. If you can find a retailer that has that brand, and also see a 60/60 style in person I think you will be able to determine whether or not you can see a difference.
If you like the 60/60 style then you can do the whole purchase online.
There are a few other retailers that also carry and cut super ideal diamonds, such as Whiteflash and Brian Gavin. I do not know if either one of those vendors though would have anything that was not a super ideal.
There is a vendor that is fairly near me that carries the CBI line as well as non branded, so if you can find a place like that to go look and compare the two that would be super helpful, I think.
If you can't do as @elizat suggests and see stuff in person, I would try to find videos of 60/60 vs traditional ideal cuts so you can see the differences with your own eye.
Here is a helpful video from Jeann Paul. Just watch it on mute so you aren't influenced one way or the other and ignore "diamond C" entirely. Diamond A is a 60/60 style, and B is a more traditional ideal cut.
You'll see the stones indoors and outdoors, which I think helps illustrate the differences nicely.
I also like this article from WF on 60/60 style stones. It even includes cut charts so you can see whether your stone would fall into "ideal" for AGS given the pavillion and crown angles.
Yeah, I think everyone is different in how they see this stuff. I preferred stone B in all lighting, though it was less obvious in some. I like the "fatter" and more prominent arrows without the bigger culet circle in the middle.
