You also might want to check out Winfield''s for a diamond. He actually has a 1.5 J in your price range if you went for a simple setting. It''s good to look on the websites but it''s best to give these vendors a call because they often have things that are not yet listed. You can always go for a larger stone now and upgrade to a perfect setting for an anniversary. Good luck.

jenn, technically, you''re still supposed to claim the item on your taxes and pay them even if you purchase out of state

...oh, yeah....

But at least he''ll have some time before that tax is due.

Does James Allen have any stones of interest? Since you''re looking at the setting from there you''ll save a bit of money by buying the stone and diamond at the same place so that you''re not paying a setting fee for JA to set a stone that isn''t theirs.

This one from JA seems to look good...

We had a talk about prices and what she wants and what she will be willing to live with and without. The setting I linked way back in the beginning was what I thought would be good. After combing the internet with me for a couple hours she decided on one like the James Allen setting. I also mentioned to her that a lot of these companies have trade up policies. She''s not as much of a perfectionist as I am and that''s why I am here. She''s told me countless times to just go to the mall and buy something there. Knowing what I know now (It''s still not much) I won''t set foot in a mall store.

I emailed James Allen yesterday concerning an SI2 diamond to see if it was Eye clean. It wasn''t, but she sent me a report and a picture of another one.

Lets see if I can get this correct...

Oh, I''ll be sure to claim this on my taxes

Looks great! Although you didn''t specify, I take it this one is eyeclean, yes?

the other file is to big but it''s an excellent cut, 1.0 carat, I, SI2, excellent polish and symmetry, and faint fluorescence. 57% table, depth of 62.1%

I just emailed her back asking if it was eye clean. This was the 2nd paragraph that was about the diamond above.

"I browsed our inventory and have located another diamond that I feel is a better SI2. The details for this diamond has been provided for your review below as well as a copy of the GIA report and a magnified image. Please take a moment to consider this diamond and feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to your response and have a fantastic day!"

I forgot to mention the price is $4170.00

Ok, you definitely need to hear on eyecleanliness. One more thing, what are the crown and pavillion angles?

I ran the numbers on the diagram through the cut adviser (Go to Tools (above), then Cut Adviser). It comes back as a 1.3, with excellent Light Return, Fire, and Scintillation and Very Good Spread. It also falls within the GIA Excellent proportions and just outside the ASG Ideal proportions.

It looks like a pretty good diamond, but you might be able to find one that falls within the standards for both GIA Excellent and ASG Ideal.

Ok, Jennifer just emailed another diamond for me to look over. I''m pretty excited about this one. Feel free to tell me otherwise if I am mistaken. The Price is $3840.

It''s .86 carats

"It is great to hear from you and I appreciate the update concerning your diamond search. I went back to our inventory and found another diamond that is a beautiful SI1. Well, this is the classic dilemma of size over higher color and clarity. The I SI2 is just a little out of my personal comfort range, so I''d probably pick the F SI1. On the other hand, if your fiance really doesn''t care much about diamond specs, would she enjoy having the 1 carat stone more? That''s really the only opinion that counts! (And honestly, from the photos, the SI2 looks better than the SI1. But as long as both are eyeclean, it probably doesn''t matter which you choose. The color will be visibly different, though.)

What about this one? It''s a very good price, $3,330. The cut adviser put it at 1.8. It was within the GIA but just outside the AGS. Scintillation was excellent and the rest were very good.

" did some research and found another diamond that I also believe to be a fantastic choice. The details are provided for your review below and our Pricescope price has also been provided. Take a look and let me know what you think. This diamond is also a triple EX through GIA."

JD -- Based on what you have provided this one looks really promising! The H/VS2 combo should be really nice and the cut looks great ...
Do you have any more info? Crown & pavilion angles or maybe even an IS or ASET pic?

I know, I hope this is it. :) The angles are 34.5 and 41% respectively. I don''t have an IS or ASET pic. Will they provide one if I ask or are they not obligated to?

JD -- Given that additional c/p angle info ... This diamond falls right within "ideal" proportions parameters!

Depending on the vendor, you can get an IS or ASET no problem ... No harm in asking right?

If not available, and you are comfortable ... This one definitely looks like it could be the ONE!

It seems to be exactly what you were looking for!

I think I am going to bite the bullet :) Jennifer hasn''t wrote back yet but I think I am going to call and reserve the diamond. I hope it''s still on the market. If not then I''ll be back here trying again.

Either way, thank you to all of you. I couldn''t have done this without you guys.

It looks like a very nice choice!

Well, I bought it. I am very excited.

I owe a very large debt to pricescope and all of you that helped me out. Both literally and figuratively. The pricescope discount saved me $270. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least.

I will share pictures. Hopefully on a pretty girls hand :)

Thanks you guys so much.

Yay!! Congratulations! Please come back with pictures for us!
