Hello All,

I recently purchased a loose diamond from James Allen:

Round Brilliant
Carat - 0.90
Color - G
Clarity - VS1
Cut, Polish, Symmetry - Excellent
Fluorescence - Very Strong Blue
Clarity Characteristics - Feather, Chip
6.32 x 6.30 x 3.71
Price: $4,000

I found a setting at RB that I really like so I brought the diamond with me to buy it. When they put my diamond under the scope, the associate mentioned that the culet was chipped and didn't come to a point. The culet is listed as 'none'. Now when I look at the picture again, I do see that it does not come to a point (https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...g-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2437502). They also thought it looked a little hazy or milky which I don't necessarily agree with.

Now I am wondering if I should keep this diamond. How much does this affect the diamond? They mentioned that it would be more at risk to crack or chip more, is this true? The diamond is beautiful and I don't notice the chip unless it's under the scope. I'm also wondering if what I paid a fair price given the circumstances? Should I have it looked at by another jeweler?

Any and all help is appreciated, thank you to everyone!

Please return it ASAP

To be honest, I don't like the chip, the cut, the haziness from strong fluo. For me, that's three strikes.

Return it!

Chip is on the culet. For the price paid I think you can find better option!

+1 all of the above and very low crown angle, too. Let pricescopers help you find a beauty within your budget.

Just echo-ing above, absolutely return it. Pricescopers can definitely help you find a more ideal stone within budget.

edited to add: you got this at such a good price because of the VSB fluorescence. So, is it a fair price? Probably. Could you do better? Definitely.

It's like going to a used car lot and looking at 2 vehicles, same make/model/year. One has been wrecked and replaced parts are all aftermarket. Paint is dinged the frame is a little bent up so it has some tracking and the tires wear oddly because of it. But it has all the extras. (This is your stone. Great size but chipped and not ideally cut) the other doesn't quite have all the extras as the previously wrecked one but the paint job is in perfect condition, not the red you wanted but white is not bad. never been wrecked and the interior is like new. This thing SHINES. Just missing those seatwarmers you really wanted. So that car would be like an ideal cut stone like this: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...rat-i-color-si1-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-2600761 Just a tad smaller, the color is a bit warmer but look at the shine and sparkle on it compared to the .9

Which are you going to drop that load of cash on?

If you don't return it now and come to upgrade in the future JA will simply tell you you damaged the diamond and it's not eligible for future upgrades. If you came to sell the diamond independently from a sensible buyer that got an appraisal, you'll find it incredibly hard to get rid of.

Don't get yourself stuck with a diamond that isn't exceptional or worth getting stuck with. You're lucky it was noticed early after purchase

Thank you again to everybody, I really appreciate the guidance. I'll be returning the diamond today and continuing my search!
