I have a ring a won in an auction 5-6 years ago - when ebay still had the live auctions. The ring replaced my original engagement ring. 2013-01-26_08.jpg

I no longer have the paperwork, etc., but the ring is marked 14k, white.
Main stone is a heart-shaped aquamarine (my birthstone)
Two accent stones, I think, are Alexandrites???
There are tiny diamonds also.

I should bring it into a jeweler to ask about the authenticity, etc. I believe they are not lab-created, but since I no longer have the paperwork, I am not certain what it said.

Ok, so here is my question:

I love my ring's design. I like the stones, but would prefer if the ring had my husband's birthstone (sapphire) as the accent stones. What factors should I take in account in order to decide whether to replace the Alexandrites with Sapphires?

Thanks

The ring needs cleaning I think. Those spots don't show when I look down at the stone.
Here are a couple more of the best photos I could take with my phone.2013-01-26_09.jpg

No factors really, you need to make sure you can find matching sapphires in a colour and size you like. When looking it might be wise to go a couple of shades lighter because once set (and I assume this has a block black or just tiny holes?) I don't think much light will get in. The prongs are normal prongs so shouldn't create an issue for a setter.

It does look like it desperately needs a cleaning. If you were to give it a good bath and then take photos, we could probably tell you more as well.

You shouldn't have issues replacing the alexandrites with sapphires but you must know the exact sze the setting can hold. After knowing that, the pair must fit size wise and match in colour.
