Hi everyone!

I am currently seeking a modified brilliant with more of a glitter/twinkling look for my significant other.
My budget for the diamond is around 10k.

From reading past threads and input from my significant other I am leaning towards the following specifications:
Ratio: Square with nice round corners 1.0 to 1.05
Carat: 1.4 to 2.2
Color: H or greater
Clarity: SI1 or greater (clear eye from 3 inches)
Cut:
Depth: mid 50%
Table: Less than 60%
Polish/Sym: VG or greater

I admit I am still a complete beginner (just started looking within the last couple of weeks) please let me know if these criteria needs to be widen/changed to fit my budget. I've looked at online sellers like jamesallen/whiteflash but unsure how to spot the better value from the bunch from just their picture. Trying to find a modified brilliant cushion between the rest of the cushions is quite the challenge!

I've also been to a physical store and seen GIA# 5243961693 which looks good and seems to be what I am looking for in terms of glitter/twinkling but is out of my budget as it was priced around $14k.

I live in NYC and would appreciate any recommendations for a a local place that can help set the diamond. I want to set this as a solitaire and having it set in a ready made setting is fine.

Thanks,
Henric

I am a newbie like you. Have you taken a look at those antique cut cushions yet? I seriously do not want modified cut anymore after I'd seen these antique cuts.

So I am sort of newish as well... At least to fancy cuts. I have been on the lookout for an elongated cushion (or radiant) and am working with Id Jewelry in the diamond district... I think we've been looking for about a month now.... and I haven't seen anything that I like! Its really hard! There are SO many ugly cushion and radiant cuts. Last summer I got a new e-ring 4ct true hearts and arrows with a 1.3 HCA score round brilliant and it can blind you with all its sparkle.... so to me, so far, everything I have seen is a little lack luster. I was just talking to Joey from IDJ today and she confirmed that nothing will sparkle like a round. I would recommend going to Id Jewelry or Good Old Gold.

I don't believe I have seen an antique cut yet but my significant other really likes the glittering/twinkling look of the modified brilliant.

Thanks for the tip! I will check out IDJ. Unfortunately GOG is a bit far for me.

You are so welcome. BTW I am not in NY so am working from afar (again) with IDJ, I'm sure Good Old Gold would work with you from a distance as well! Check out Good Old Gold's youtube channel they have really great info on there. I can't find the video they made comparing cushion modified to the vintage cuts they sell but they have SO many informative videos on cushions it will really turn you into a cushion snob ;)
I have found them to be the most helpful for understanding what specs to look for to achieve the cushion/ radiant look I want.
