I am looking to spend within $2000 and would like 18k white gold, or platinum if it is not significantly more expensive. I am thinking that SI1 or SI2 clarity should be acceptable on diamonds in this price range. I think a minimum color of H also sounds about right. Any advice on what to look for or where to look is appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi bh9

Are you hoping to get the most size for the money? White gold would be cheaper than platinum, also if you included I or J colour that would help the budget also but this is entirely down to personal preference. Let us know then we can have a look for you.

These vendors sell preset or loose diamonds, they could also match you a pair of loose diamonds on request to make your studs.

Thanks for finding those, Stone-cold11.

I would like to maximize size, but definitely not if the stones look in any way yellowish or have inclusions visible to the naked eye.

My wife''s engagement ring is a 1.7ct/VS2/H/HCA-0.8 that looks quite nice.

Stone-cold11''s recommendations looked good, but a bit bigger would be nicer. I think it''s safe to say on smaller stones that SI1 or even SI2 would be safe. Would I or J be safe?

Thanks for the help.

I have I coloured studs, uncerted, and they look great to me. I really think you''d be fine in the size that you''re looking at. Plus, on your ears, no one looks at them as closely as they might your hand.

Looks like I am hitting the cusp of a big price jump for 0.5-1.0ct stones and I-SI1/SI2 in this range seem to be rare.

Hi, I just picked up a pair of ''uncertified'' bezel studs from Yekutiel at ID Jewelry - .62 ctw, f/g color, SI2 clarity (Yekutiel was honest and told me that one diamond has a feather, I can''t see it without my loupe). The earrings were $600. I made my purchase based on the excellent experience that ''Bliss'' had with ID Jewelry when she was buying earrings. Sorry I don''t have the link. Give him a call maybe he can come up with something ''big'' within your budget. Good Luck.

yap, big $/carat jump at the 0.5c mark.

I am definitely happy to take uncertified for a significantly bigger stone in this price range, provided the retailer is reputable. Personally, I am a bit wary of buying in the diamond district without a certificate, as I just don''t trust my own eyes for diamond judgment. Are there any reputable online retailers that sell uncertified stones (set in earrings of course) for a decent discount?

Looks good if eye clean?

As far as I can tell, the only inclusion I can see under the "virtual loupe" is on the first one (1262699) at about 2:00, a little less than half way between the center and edge. For a ring, I wouldn''t risk it, but on earrings I imagine they would be fine. Am I being too optimistic?

Just call and ask, no way to tell from image.
