Someone please help me out if you can....I''m looking at buying an asscher cut diamond soon, but I would like some advice on the table and depth (what is ideal, and what is the bottom range of ideal).

Also, I''m buying a loose stone (probably from Blue NIle or other online vendor), but I already have the mounting. Is it possible to have this loose diamond mounted locally and should I stand there while they do it? Should I just purchase ANOTHER band from the vendor?

Any help is appreciated....

Kevin

If you already have a mounting that you believe she will like, I wouldn't buy another. I would buy the loose stone, take it to a local jeweler and they can inspect it. If all is well, and I'm sure it will be, you can leave it to be mounted, and sized if needed. It might take a day or maybe a week or longer, depending on their schedule. That's just my opinion. And- on the other hand- if you see a mounting in your price range on blue nile, or where ever you buy, they will mount it, size it, then ship to you. Good luck!

The total depth for an Asscher needs to be in the 67 - 70% range in order for the concentric squares to look right. The table diameter is not as critical. Excellent polish and symmetry is readily available so you shouldn't feel like you need to settle for anything less... You should be able to have the diamond set locally or you can send the mounting to the on-line vendor and ask them to set the diamond in the ring provided. Be sure that the mounting will take the size center stone you select.
