Advice on a small issue

Hello Everyone!

I have this necklace that I love, but there's a problem with the clasp - it's come loose or something and now the clasp won't stay open or shut. I think maybe a hinge fell out but I'm not sure. Now I'm looking for a jeweler to repair it for me. I haven't been to a jeweler since I moved to my new area and I'm scared to take it to just anyone. Do you think fixing a clasp is a hard job for any jeweler? Is there a list of recommended jewelers (sorted by state or something) that I can contact to see if they can fix it?

I know it's a small issue but I've had this necklace for what feels like forever and I really want to fix it so I can start wearing my pendants again. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is it a specialty clasp that you want repaired or do you just want to have them put on a new one? The latter should take sixty seconds pretty much anywhere, for the former you're right to be hesitant, depending on what it's made of/how it's made/how it's damaged it might be a costly endeavour, and definitely I think one for an expert even if that means you have to ship it out...

Welcome! Technically questions on settings and repairs are made on the Rocky Talky forum and this forum is used for showing new jewelry items, for future reference!

I usually try to find an expensive jeweler who likely has particular clients and hope that they have a good bench person! I'd never go to a chain or discount jeweler for repairs.

I think it's just a basic clasp, but I'm not sure. I just don't want to end up in a jewelry store and have them do a crap job for a high price. Can anyone recommend a jeweler in new jersey (particularly north jersey)? I'm really looking for someone I can trust with both big and small jobs because I have a few things in my jewelry box in need of repair/plating/etc.

I just moved too, late last year, and haven't found a good jeweller/bench yet.
I'm having a small local place do some appraisals this weekend - I hope they're what I'm looking for!

I found them looking for watch and clock repair shops instead of jewellers - maybe you'll have some luck there?

Yssie - Ugh I totally know what you mean! Sometimes it seems next to impossible to find a jeweler who isn't a total d-bag! I went to a jeweler who was a few blocks from the house and I told him about my nickle allergy and how I needed the clasp repaired with something of the same quality. He kept insisting that because nickle is just an alloy, it's in such small amounts that it's impossible for people to have allergic reactions!!!! I've lived with a nickle allergy almost all my life and I've always had to be extra careful when buying jewelry because of the rashes I'd get. As soon as that came out of his mouth, I thanked him for his time and left

But I'll give Yanina's a call. Hopefully there are more competent employees/bench workers there.

I'd also venture to guess that jewelers in the glen rock, ridgewood, Franklin lakes, Wyckoff areas would be better and used to more requests- they are most likely dealing with more fickle clientele in those areas.... Just my guess.
