Just FYI: I was interested in that .97 ''OEC'' from old world diamonds initially, but when I called Adam & talked to him about it, he said it was actually a transitional cut and he felt it leaned towards looking most like a round brilliant. Don''t know if that matters to you but just wanted to pass it on. He said the cert actually says transitional cut, not OEC. (I wanted an actual OEC, so I got a different stone.)

ooh, thanks for the heads up. Did he say anything about the color?

Honestly, I think we did discuss it but it was some months ago and I can''t remember!! If you haven''t yet talked to Adam on the phone, he is very easy going and doesn''t mind answering questions. He can usually pull diamonds in a matter of moments so it''s no major hassle, either.

I''d call him and ask what he thinks of the two you''re looking at, and als. He was kind enough to tell me one of the low colored stones I''d asked about was a top brown (which I don''t like), and which were too shallow etc. Very helpful. The one he suggested, my 1.22 N color OEC, is gorgeous. He said it was an eyeclean SI1, and it is indeed perfectly eyeclean from every angle, and he said it was the sparkliest of the five or so I''d called about- and I''ve compared it to several other OECs in person of similar size, and it is a great performer indeed, so in my opinion, he advised me very well.

LGK -- That is great advice. I''ve been bombarding Adam with questions but I haven''t yet picked up the phone (I work in this crazy/weird open office where I''m afraid to call up vendors and discuss...! Coworkers would definitely give me some funny looks). I''m glad to hear that others have worked with Adam, trusted his eye, and loved the results. It''s so weird to shop for something so aesthetic -- and so subjective -- using the Internet.

The radiant looks cleaner than the cushion but if you''re after the antique stone look, I don''t think you''ll acheive it. It''s a modern cut IMO.

Is there a max $$ you want to spend?

I can''t spend more than $3500, so we''re looking at a really limited budget. I love the cushions you picked out. I would definitely rock a 2.22 carat. I think the first one that you suggested is about 1K overbudget.

That ring from Nelson Rarities is amazing! It looks good enough to eat!

Have you looked at Diamonds by Lauren? She specializes in fancy yellows.

I am supposed to call David from DBL at some point today or tomorrow. I''m curious to see what the DBL folks will suggest.

Would you be interested in a GIA .75 fancy intense yellow radiant (5.61x4.56x3.10) flanked by two bullet shaped diamonds F VS .30ctw set in a soft knife edge custom platinum ring?

I saw a used one which cannot be linked to here, since we don''t link and don''t sell on PS. I suppose you could google it?

I''m not a fan of Diamonds By Lauren. Some sketchy reviews and IMO a lot of their diamonds are wonky. Caveat Emptor since they do have some nice ones too.

Yeah, Adam is BAD at answering emails! He (and most of all the other vendors I emailed except for Single Stone) when I was searching... maybe they get so many frivolous emails they don''t even bother.

Oh, and purrfectpear- Erica sold that gorgeous rock you are thinking of, the 10mm one. It''s getting reset, I''m totally curious to see it finished... don''t know if the new owner is a PS member or not, but maybe we''ll get lucky and get to see it again!

Sounds pretty...I will try a google search. I''ve been seeing some nice things that intrigue me, so I am not too stressed out. Sounds like folks here are not huge fans of the modern cushion or the modern radiant?

LGK--Sometimes I think it is easier to discuss these things over the phone. :) Maybe that''s why they are slow. Adam sent me 3 different options (including the U, VS that I posted earlier in this thread) that are really gorgeous. I''ll see if he''ll send me some prices.

I just received another option from a 3rd vendor. It is a modern cushion, as well. What do you think?

Hello lovely PSers,

I''m not getting much feedback, so I am going to bump my own thread: Please help me judge if I should accept or pass on the stones that I posted in this thread. I would love to hear your input on the cuts and colors. :)

Thanks!!!

It''s hard to judge from pictures, and so much is a matter of taste. My personal preference is for antique cuts, but perhaps the colors of the modern ones are better? Sorry this isn''t very helpful.

Did you try amgad.com? They have nice stuff.

I have been talking with Amgad. They''ve been really wonderful so far, very nice and service oriented.

I visited a B&M yesterday to look at stones in person. It is indeed difficult to judge from pictures. I think it is just easier to find fancy colors in modern cuts. I''ve been told -- and do not know if this is true -- that antique fancy colors command a high premium.

I have asked for antique-style cuts. Right now, the cuts that I''ve been offered seem to be mixed (have characteristics of older cushions, like smaller tables/higher crowns, but cut more like a cut-cornered brilliant, so not as "chunky" as the true antiques.)

I just wanted to tell you I love them all and I can''t wait to see your final ring. It''s going to be gorgeous. Please keep us posted which one you buy.
