Advice On A Double Halo Setting Please!

Hi!

I've been lurking for what feels like forever and am finally engaged (in Mexico this past weekend!) and about to get a beautiful shiny diamond ring of my own. My amazing partner is letting me pick my own setting and I'll be using a vintage heirloom stone, approximately .75 old style cushion cut. I'm dreaming of a double halo a-la- Tiffany's Soleste style and have been through all of the threads posted from people who also were looking for double halo's, with one small difference (which is why I made a new post), budget. Mine is a teensy tiny 2k-2.5k. I'm almost resigned to the fact that it may not be possible but figured if anyone would know where I might find the perfect setting it would be you guys.

I've reached out to DBL and honestly, their work is so incredible and gorgeous I'd be tempted to get a single halo done by them if it would fit my budget and then 'upgrade' in the future to the double halo instead of a new stone. BUT, if I can find my dream setting now then I want to go for it, obviously :mrgreen:.

I love the micro pave look, and really dislike the clunky -too much metal- halo look. I'm not looking for a split shank and would give up the pave on the shank for that double halo.

Any ideas? I'm in NY and can meet with jewelers here, go check places out, etc.

Have you had any experience with Eternity Diamonds? Going to do some research but curious about quality of the setting and guarantee.

I worked with Eternity Diamonds for a custom engagement ring setting. They're very pleasant to work with, but my ring did not require CADs nor was it very different from an existing design. They were pretty fast. I think it took approximately three weeks to get my ring. The setting is great quality. I've had it for about a year and have had no problems so far. It's SOLID and you can tell it's well-made. The white gold is holding up nicely. However, the guarantee they offer is free repairs for a year if something goes wrong (I think). It might be a little less. Far from a lifetime guarantee. This wasn't a deal breaker for me because their work is really so inexpensive, so I went ahead with them. You'd have to think about what this means to you.


ETA: I also have a halo setting. It's lovely...let me try and find a picture.

Love the Shane & Co ring, the ID setting is pretty but too much metal for my tastes. Sigh, champagne tastes on a Budweiser budget... Wish I had a few extra k's to throw into a custom setting.

Now, one last question. Do you guys think it would be in my best interest to get the gorgeous quality now with a single halo through someone like DBL and hold out till I can afford that double, or buy a lower quality (assuming it's a lower quality because it doesn't have the same workmanship, etc, correct me if I'm wrong) setting through one of these mass online vendors?
 
I love any kind of halo, so if you want to go single, I'm sure it would look lovely. I'm in love with the Vatche Grace, it is a cushion halo and you can have a round or cushion diamond, .75 or more in the center. They can actually do it with a .70 too. It's right at your budget, plus the cost to set the stone. It's a an amazing setting.

ShaneCo will set any outside diamond into their setting for a cost...I've done it before. I think their jewelers are very good. Not sure if you live close to a ShaneCo, but I think you can still have your diamond set if you mail it in and order the setting online. You'll have to check.
 
I would not pay all that $$$$ now for a custom setting you are eventually going to change. I would go for a cheaper setting now, then when you're ready go for the setting that you really want. I think Eternity Diamonds is a good option, as alot of PS-ers have been happy with their work. I think the only issue they are having right now is that they are out of stock in alot of their CZ replica rings included in the "Try it for Free" program that they have. I would contact them and see what they could do for you. Good luck and congrats on your engagement!! :appl:

I reached out to Mark at Engagement Rings Direct after seeing an incredible custom piece he'd done for another Pricescoper and have my fingers and toes crossed that it will fall within the budget or just outside of it. Maybe I read your post incorrectly- but I wanted to point out that in my experience, you can't simply add a second halo on a single halo ring to get a double halo....
maybe that was not your intention, but if you were thinking that I wanted to clarify.....

I totally get what you're saying, didn't actually think we could throw another halo onto the original setting. Was just thinking that some people upgrade their diamonds, since I'm using a family stone, I was contemplating getting a perfect single halo and then, when I have more budget to work with I'd upgrade that single to a new double ( :love: ) setting!

I really want quality now but it's not easy with a mini budget so I have to figure out how to get that picture perfect quality to work in my budget until I have a bit more money to work with.
 
I'll have to say, if you can't get your forever setting now, I would find the cheapest plain setting I could find and save the rest of the money toward the double halo if that is what you want. I just wouldn't want to waste $2000 now just to replace the setting in 5 years.

Here's one from Gabriel and Co. but it has a split shank like the ERD ring. Good price at $2600, though.

diamondseeker- that setting is beautiful, do you know if the center diamond is a round brilliant or cushion?? I can't tell! I may eventually want to reset my round diamond in something like that and am just curious.

My dear father took the original ring with the center stone in this morning to get it appraised as he's traveling to visit my partner and I and bringing it with so he wanted to make sure it was insured. The jeweler let us know it's actually a round old mine cut, .65 carats center stone (VS2) with .15 carats in side diamonds. There go my cushion double halo dreams, am now on the hunt for a gorgeous setting for a round stone.

The best laid plans, eh?

Check out Single Stone for inspiration (they are a little pricey). They have some beautiful settings for antique stones.

Well, a round is usually an OEC so I would still hold out some hope that it is a rounded cushion OMC. I don't really think it will make you have to change settings necessarily. Look at the ring I linked. I think it could work with either. I will have to say, though, that I prefer antique style settings for old stones. Look through the Gabriel site because they have tons of antique settings at really good prices.

Heather...I'd call Good Old Gold and ask them to check with Gabriel about your question. It looks to me like it would work.
 
Those Singlestone rings are stunning!

I went through the Gabriel site yesterday and again today when I found out that the stone was round. A million and one gorgeous settings that I want and you're absolutely right, I could still potentially have my double halo with a round stone. Since it's such a small center stone I will likely want to up the finger coverage up a bit through the setting.

Also, just noticed that none of the settings I had originally loved from ERD are even available for stones under .75 carats. Oh well!
