ADVICE NEEDED: Should I Keep My 3 Carat, I Color, Medium Blue Fluorescent Diamond?

Hello,

I purchased a 3.01 carat diamond online and would appreciate some advice on whether I should keep it or not. I've provided
the specs below. This diamond has medium blue fluorescence, which I've been told is a negative quality of the stone by many jewelers (not sure if this is a sales tactic, but it's got me worried). Please see the link to the diamond and let me know if this diamond is negatively effected by the fluorescence. I would hate to have a dull/ hazy/ milky looking diamond. Any advice on whether to keep this diamond or not would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there!

I also suspect that there's some sales tactic going on when jewelers make remarks like that. That amount of Fluor also rarely negatively impacts the stone. The way you referred to the milky and hazy impacts sounds like you don't have the stone on hand yet. What I would suggest doing is taking the stone to a local appraiser and getting their opinion for piece of mind.

Also, any diamond that is dirty doesn't perform at its best. A regular cleaning regimen is key. I have an ultrasonic cleaner and I clean jewelery I've worn daily in it like I do my Invisalign braces lololol. My Invisalign are sparkly and white like my bling

In my experience, most jewellers seem to be very quick to disparage anything not bought from them.
Unfortunately jewellers are losing a lot of their business to online vendors so they can be very defensive/negative about such purchases.
Fluorescence in a diamond isn’t uncommon, those little nitrogen atoms are excitable. Very strong fluorescence can be a negative as in bright sunlight it can make the diamond look hazy.
In an I colour diamond, like yours, medium fluorescence is a plus, not a negative. It actually whitens up the very slight yellow tint.
If youre still concerned, see an appraiser (not a jeweller) and get their opinion.

In the first pic is it me or does it look bluish and hazy at the bottom of the stone? But in the 2nd pic no haziness detected.

Or am I just seeing a reflection of the person taking the picture?

I think it may be a reflection. It doesn’t seem to look hazy in person. At this point, I’m wondering if the hazy appearance would be obvious to me or if it is something that could be undetected, but negatively effecting the fire or brilliance of the diamond.

Yeah, it's hard to tell from pictures. In some pics I think I see some haziness in other pictures I don't see any.

Really, it's all about how it looks to you...if you look at it and think it looks great, then keep it!

I think the blue is a reflection. Very rarely does MBF cause a problem... the stone looks lovely.

I personally love fluorescence. It's a bonus in my opinion.

I've had other jewelers say negative things about pieces I've purchased elsewhere too. They're just mad you didn't give them your money....

The stone looks beautiful . I don't detect any haze when looking at the pictures ~ do you when you see the stone in person?
I love fluor in a diamond and hope to own a brian gavin blue at some point in my life!

From everything I’ve read about fluorescence and haziness, it basically doesn’t cause haze/milkiness except in very rare cases with very strong fluoro.
And I think one of the discussions on here, it was more likely to be a possible issue when there were clouds in the stone and then it was actually the clouds that were the issue than the fluoro but fluoro usually got the blame. Hopefully I’ve remembered that right.
I love fluoro - I think it looks pretty and is a special secret your stone has. I think the jeweller is being old school or petty because you didn’t buy from them. The stone looks gorgeous in all your pictures.

Wow. It looks great! Crisp and bright- not hazy. (Which would look like if you added several teaspoons of milk into a glass of white wine (or water)). Are you having it set locally?

You could say it is a family stone (cuz it is, now). Usually they won't shell on family diamonds.

And (should they look it up) the report date is because you (or your great aunt) wanted to know what you received (or she was giving).

A word of advice...never return to the jewelers who told you the lies. You can't trust them on any purchase when they lie to you up front.

I 100% agree. Get it set by a vendor with some ethics and honesty.
