**Advice needed* Platinum vs white gold setting

Hello, Need your professional advise on a ring setting. I am trying to decide between platinum and White gold. I have read all the technical specs and ductility, having a better grip on the diamond ect, ect. I will be having a three stone setting with two baguette diamonds.

So I would like to hear from the diamond users personally, is it really worth going for platinum and paying 1.5 (or more) times the price of white gold.

PS: I initially did not have the budget for platinum but im stuck deciding.
 
I think it really comes down to your personal preference for how you want the metal to look.

If you like the look of bright white shiney metal then go with WG. You will need to redip it as it yellows but it will go right back to looking brand spanking new. If you like the patina affect that PLAT has (more antique with bits of grey, basically a duller metal) then go PLAT.
 
Also consider palladium. Same metal family as platinum (meaning it has all the same attributes). Only difference is a) it's lighter--same weight as gold, and b) it's even cheaper than gold.

To almost any eyes, it will be indistinguishable from platinum.

Only drawback is that not as many jewelers work with palladium, so before you have any work done (including resizing) you need to make sure they've worked with it. If you live in/near a city, this won't be an issue.
 
Personally I say if you can afford the plat for your er/wedding rings then go for it.

+1 ... Since you've already looked at all of the "technical" pros and cons, personally I'd also go for PLAT. When designing my set, I tried on a bunch of different settings at local jewlery stores to start to get ideas and I learned that I really like the feeling of the weight of the plat settings on my finger vs the feel of the WG pieces (again, just from my personal perspective).
 
Personally, I prefer Plat particularly for Ering because I like to feel the weigh. My original ering was plat, my replacement & upgrade is plat and now my secondary ring is also plat. Although its cost more but I feel is worthwhile. The rest of my jewelry in regular gold (18kt & 14kt).
 
Platinum for me. Since gold is so high, there is little reason not to get platinum.

Just understand that some platinum alloys are softer and result in more scratching with the gray patina developing faster. But it can be polished anytime and I prefer polished platinum over plated white gold. I recommend these two:

90% platinum/ 10% iridium

95% platinum/ 5% ruthenium

These are the alloys that master ring makers (Victor Canera, Leon Mege, Mark Morrell, etc.) and others, such as Tiffany, use.

Most cast settings are made of the 95plat/5iridium which is not as hard and scratches more.
 
I'd say go with what DS has suggested. The kind of explanation she has provided is worth giving a try. In the end it all depends on what you prefer.
 
Personally, though I like the weight of platinum, I do not care for the dull grey look it takes on after the brand-new shine wears off (though of course, you can get it repolished).

I have come to realize that white gold is my metal of choice, primarily because for me, the rhodium-plated finish seems to last apx 7-8 years before re-dipping is called for... and for me I prefer a whiter metal with my diamonds and colored gemstones rather than a grey-color metal. The fact it is more affordable to my pocketbook is definitely a bonus.

If you really are not sure which to pick, I'd go with the metal recommended by your jeweler for your particular ring setting.
