We''re looking to buy a ring this weekend and have found the following diamond. I''d be very grateful for advice on this round brilliant diamond, I''ve found this forum so useful and really value the expert opinions available:

It will be set in a platinum 6 claw setting

Thank you for any help

Numbers look good. Which lab graded the stone?

Thanks for the quick reply. It''s a Tiffany gemological laboratory report, I don''t have any other report at the moment. I left it out of my initial post as I know some people aren''t too keen on Tiffany diamonds!

The only issue I have with the cut of Tiffany diamonds is that they are often overly deep, but that is not the case here--this one has excellent numbers. The reason for the question was to see whether color and clarity grading was in line with GIA & AGS. I'm not totally sure how Tiffany's grading stacks up there. If you see the diamond in person and it is white enough for you and eye-clean, then it's just not an issue.

There are people that don't want to pay Tiffany's prices and feel they can get a better diamond elsewhere for similar price (I'm one of them

). As with any premium brand, you pay extra for the name, whether it's food, vehicles or jewelry--it is just a matter of each person's comfort zone on price and brand. If you want a Tiffany ring, go for it.

Thanks. Does that mean that another lab report eg. GIA may actually find that it''s a I or VS2 for example?

I really don't know. Maybe one of the appraisers that has seen several Tiffany diamonds can weigh in on the strictness of their grading. In the end, it will kind of be a moot point, as you are really paying for the brand. In order to compare apples to apples, you can only compare to other Tiffany diamonds and I would assume that T&Co is consistent with grading their own stones.

The numbers look great. Have you seen the ring?

I suspect that Tiff''s color and clarity grading is pretty good, but hopefully an expert can chime in. I would be curious about the answer.

Looks good, from what I have heard, Tiff''s grading is quite good on color and clarity.

I''ve not seen it myself yet but my fiance has and he thought it looked gorgeous

He compared it to a F medium blue fluor VVS2 and couldn''t see any difference
