hi everyone,

After weeks of researching and exploring, I am down to two diamonds for my budget ($~6500). One from high performance diamond, and one from JA.

Diamond 1 (HPD)
- Cut: craft by infinity
- Colour: J
- Fluorescence: Negligible

Diamond 2 (JA)
- Cut: Ideal
- Colour: G
- Fluorescence: medium

I have not shown price, clarity or carat because they are very similar. Both have dimensions in the sweet spot on the HCA chart.

My question is, should I go for the best cut possible (i.e.: HPD) and lose a bit on the colour, or go for a slightly inferior cut but better colour? J to G seems like a big gap, and the HPD doesn't have any fluorescence to make it "appear" whiter. Although I have been told by HPD that all their diamonds are cut to look whiter than they are (maybe bring it to H at most?). The cut of the JA diamond is quite good, but I can say the HPD has better cut from comparing the ideal scopes (attached for reference).

Thanks

I’d have to see videos to decide. A “J” is outside of my comfort zone, so I’d want to see it in action first. Which way are you leaning?

I’m a huge fan of super ideal diamonds FWIW, but JA has good diamonds too.

i am leaning towards the G color one - I am also a little uncomfortable about J color.

But everything I read so far says cut is the most important...

.
The H&A quality is the best of the best of something & the crisp play of light is quite a pelasure. Today, between these two stones, it makes me smile .-)

If the other diamond were a D/E with similar cut, I'd find it too hard to make my mind & comment !

Can you take your time to see a GIA or AGS 'J' in person ?

I would get the G =)2
I have had AGS ideal J color MRB but I was never comfortable with its color.
