Dear Pricescope forum members,
I am new to the wide world of diamond purchase. I''ve spent a few weeks obsessively reading through the posts on RockyTalky, etc, and I think I am finally ready to buy a diamond to propose to my girlfriend. My budget is low in comparison with the average forum member (it seems), and I would like to buy a 1/2 ct ideal cut round brilliant for less than $1500--preferably less than $1000, if I can manage. I really like the policies at Good Old Gold, so here is what I am thinking:

Shape: Round
Carat Weight: 0.51ct
Color: J
Clarity: SI1
AGS Cut Grade: Ideal
GIA Cut Grade: Very Good
AGS Light Performance: Ideal
Optical Symmetry: Superior
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Fluorescence: None
Culet: None
Lab Report #: 5666304
In House: Yes
Width: 5.10mm
Length: 5.12mm
Depth: 3.19mm
Table Percentage: 54.07%
Depth Percentage: 62.35%
Crown ∠: 34.43°
Pavilion ∠: 40.68°
Policy: Lifetime Guarantee
Price: $922

Is this a good purchase? I like the look of fluorescing diamonds, but this seems like it fits my specs and budget perfectly. Cut is by far the most important "C" to me--I want this diamond to sparkle like CRAZY. Thanks for your help.

It could be a beautiful diamond and likely is, BUT when I did a Pricescope search for similar weight, color and clarity round diamonds, the price of $922 was just about the highest of several diamonds which pretty much are nearly the same in quality and appearance. One missing detail in your description is the range of girdle thickness and while not a big deal most of the time, maybe that is the missing key to if this is the one to keep or just one more to consider in a larger group of possible stones. Maybe that's why no one else responded yet. Since your budget is relatively low, you want to get the most out of it so take a bit of looking around before pulling the trigger. It is always easier to be impulsive, but not always the best way to handle unfamiliar purchases.

What lab graded the color and clarity. You have both AGS and GIA cut grading, but which lab put the crucial color and clarity grades on this one?

Hi Joe and welcome.

Do you have any images for this diamond please such as Idealscope, ASET etc?

Ditto. Images?

Here is a BGD signature stone in your price range (just to give you some options). It is upgradable if you decide in the future
to go larger. Need to ask if it is eye-clean (which I bet it is because BG is very picky).

GOG is very respectable and has great policys too. You might need to call them because they have been upgrading their
system and are having problems.

The Brian Gavin looks near perfection!!!
