I'm in NYC and have pretty much made up my mind on the diamond I want for the E-ring. The corresponding GIA report is about 2 years old. To have piece of mind before my purchase, I'd like to confirm the details of that report and ensure the diamond hasnt been damaged or deteriorated in anyway since the issuance of that report. My thought was to get it looked at by a gemologist/appraiser before the purchase to confirm the GIA report details.
However, I also want to make sure that after my purchase, the mounted diamond is the same diamond I paid for and that it hasnt been switched as well as have it appraised. Neurotic? probably, I blame NYC.
How would you recommend I address these issues? Have it viewed just once pre or post-purchase? Have it viewed twice? Can a gemologist/appraiser accurately assess the diamond after its mounted?
