Hello pricescopers,

I'm looking at a diamond on WF and would like to know your thoughts. My budget is 6k (for both the diamond and setting). I already have the setting in mind, which is from WF and costs about $600. Ideally I'd like to purchase a 1 carat diamond, since my girlfriend has said that she prefers a 1 carat but is "fine" with a 0.9. She doesn't owns very little jewelry so this ring would be very special for her besides the fact that it would be her engagement ring. I'd like to make a good and educated purchase. So far from my browsing, this diamond is the only one that fits my budget and looks decent but I'm not sure if I should go for it OR wait and see if WF gets new inventory (not sure how often this happens).

Here are the specs:

Carat 1.000
Color J
Clarity VS2
Measurements 6.34x6.37x4.00 mm
Cut Excellent
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Excellent
Fluorescence Faint
Eye-Clean Yes
Culet None

Lower Girdle % - 75.0

Besides the specs, I'm also iffy about getting a J color diamond, as my gf also mentioned she would like a G or H minimum. Both of us are pretty low profile but I'd like to get a shiny diamond that performs well visually to the average eye. Are my expectations of getting a 1 carat unreasonable given my budget? Any advice on this particular diamond or other diamond recommendations are welcome! Thanks :twirl:

Yes, your wants are unreasonable if you are looking to get a 1ct super ideal with G or H color for ~$5500. I don't love the premium select you chose bc it's very deep but it does come with WF's excellent upgrade policy-would that ever be a possibility? I like this stone more and think it would be eye clean at this size: https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3836206.htm

However if she said she prefers G/H color, I wouldn't go down to J. Is there any flexibility in your budget? This is just under a carat (faces up practically the same size as the premium select stone) and one color better: https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3936460.htm

Another great choice and H color: https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3934801.htm

If you must hit 1ct and above H color, maybe we could help find you a GIA XXX that meets the criteria for ideal cut:

What setting are you looking at? What color gold?

I like that other J that ac117 posted. I would ask for a picture of that J along with an H colored stone so you can see the difference in color/size. Honestly,
most people appreciate size over color. ACAs are Ideal cut AGS000 so they face up very bright/white for their color. The color you do see is usually a tint
from the side.

Here are a couple of Hs

This is an almost 3 carat ACA - "I" colored...so just a step above a J.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm leaning towards buying a diamond from WF because they have the setting that I like and because of all the positive things I've read about them. Upgrading would be out of the question for us. We have browsed several retailers in malls to see how different carat sizes look on her finger. She is a size 4.75. In general, do super ideal cuts look bigger than the typical diamonds found in mall stores? Like would a 0.9 super ideal look the same as a 1.0 carat with lower cut grade to the average eye? I'm not sure if I am phrasing this correctly.

I guess I'm trying to figure out where I can sacrifice in terms of the 4 C's. My budget is somewhat flexible but I'm trying not to go too far over.

This is a setting I'm looking at in 14k white gold-

In my opinion, I'm ok with going to a lower color grade and clarity as long as it looks colorless and is eye clean, but she worries more about it being "mind clean" and having good specs.
