So I need some advice on my ER design. I am getting one designed and have been back and forth quiet a bit, but am still unsure. The diamond is a 1.5ct Brilliant Round Cut.

I am wanting:
-Platinum
-6 claw setting
-Knife edge band with taper towards the setting.
-Lowish height setting
-Something simple that looks delicate that really shows off the diamond.

In general I like the design that I have now, however it still looks a tad chunky or do you think that is just how it looks on CAD drawings?

- Is 0.9mm for the Claws a normal thickness?
- The Claws look square in the CAD drawing, but will they come out more round?
- Is the diamond too ''covered?
- Does that knife edge look too long and sharp? Should I reduce the angel to make it less pointy?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeremy

I am no expert...

… but I think CAD images always come out somewhat 'chunkier' than they end up as when actually cast - and polishing can tweak the final shape to a degree as well. I'm personally not a fan of the knife-edge style but many are, so hopefully others might be able to advise on if it is too knife-edge-y!

You could ask for the prongs to be 'claw' prongs (i.e. come to a point where they are over the top of the stone), as that would look more delicate, but I would have to defer to others on here with experience of them to confirm if they are just as sturdy or need a little extra care.

Not sure about this but it sounds about right

The prongs will be filed down from what you see, they have to cast it with extra metal and whittle it down. I'd look for examples of their finished prongs to make sure they can execute your vision, not everyone is able to do them right. They can be finished to be rounded, tablike, or clawlike - plenty of examples online or on pricescope so you can compare.

- Is the diamond too ''covered?
It doesn't look too covered to me but that's a personal preference type thing. To see more of it you would need a different design but the tradeoff is the diamond would be less secure

- Does that knife edge look too long and sharp? Should I reduce the angel to make it less pointy?
That's another personal preference thing. it looks not too sharp where it would rest between the fingers. I'm assuming it's for your intended - have you gone to try these types of settings in person to make sure it's comfy enough?

You've chosen a very classic & classy look - good luck & congrats on your pending engagement!

So my Jeweler has just informed me that I can't get any text engraved on the inside as the band is too thin (2mm). Does this sound right?

Is it likely it will not be stamped (pt for platinum) also?

2mm is not an abnormally narrow band but it is getting on the smaller side.

It should be stamped with a hallmark - I believe it is a legal requirement to do so. They are usually very small, <2mm, so there should not be any issues with that.

I would have thought laser engraving could be one option if you want text inside the ring itself (other than the hallmark) - that can go extremely small/fine, but you might need to search out a specialist.

Thanks for the help everyone. Just a very late update, the ring turned out way nicer than I could have expected, and seem to do the trick as she said yes! Thanks again :) IMG_2175-2.jpg IMG_2172.jpg
