Hi all,

I'm new to this board but have lurked it thoroughly before. My current quarantine obsession has been diamond-related research, as my SO and I are beginning our search for a stone.
We had flown to New York a few months ago (prior to the global shutdown) to try on some rings in the diamond district. I fell in love with pears.

I've been trying to learn as much as possible as to what to look for in a stone (grading, ratio, any other specifics) and would love some input from anyone on here with any knowledge or advice. I was hoping to find a stone on the larger size (5-6 carats), and our budget is around $60,000 - $80,000. From what I can tell online this might be difficult but possibly do-able. We do have a jeweler that is looking for a stone, but I'm open to sourcing it elsewhere if need be.

All input is much appreciated!

Yekutal IDJewelry Manhattan New York. He is on this forum and he is unbelievable at sourcing and working within your budget

I second Yekutiel at IDJ. If you’re interested in antique pears I would suggest contacting Adam at OWD. He also has accessibility to modern stones. Good luck!

Hi All!
It’s an unusual time for a serious buyer. On the one hand, there might be bargains. But the fact is, the largest diamond cutters are out of business right now. Smaller sellers may have inventory- and maybe even exactly what someone is looking for. But clearly there’s only a tiny fraction of diamonds actually available right now as compared to even a month back.
All this makes gauging prices / supply more difficult right now.
Best of luck @stradale

What color range are you looking in?

Preference would be G or higher, but not sure if that's do-able within the budget.

I know it's an unusual time to buy, but all I need is one diamond so maybe I'll get lucky!

I used distinctive gems concierge service. Jonathan who is very well known Pricescope member managed to help me find an amazing 3 carat pear shaped diamond at a competitive price. I could not be happier with my pear shaped diamond ring and would not hesitate to use his concierge service again.

Good luck with your decision!

Icerock Diamonds on Instagram have had a couple of large pears lately, they might be able to help once the lockdown is over.

The latest discounts for fluorescemce out to give you some choice of colourless pears.

Check out Diamondsbylauren.com or IDJewelry.com. Reach out to David at Diamonds By Lauren or Yekutiel at ID Jewelry. If you're interested in an antique stone, Adam at Old World Diamonds. Good luck to you. David at DBL owns his stones and may have something in stock that you do not see on his website. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Thanks everyone. I did check the websites for IDJ and DBL and didn't see any diamonds that fit the criteria. I do have a jeweler looking for me that I am confident will find a stone; it will just take time.

There was one at IDJ that met all of the criteria... but it has been color treated. Not willing to consider.
I found another one that on paper looked great, but the ratio was closer to 1.3-1.4 and I'm particular about wanting to stay in the 1.5-1.7 range.

I would suggest reaching out via email rather than just relying on what's on the sites :)

You have to contact them privately. Last week my daughter started looking for a stone for her girlfriend and Yekutal at IDJewelry found it in a day. It wasn't on the inventory you have to be a little more aggressive. Just suggesting
