Been doing a little browsing on JA and came across a couple of FIC's worth investigation.

HCA 1.2 FIC
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.70-carat-j-color-vs1-clarity-very-good-cut-sku-628646

My understanding is that the 75 lower girdle facets could make it appear somewhat dark. A 78 would be an improvement. The depth is also a killer in terms of 'value' with the 64% coupled with slightly thick to thick girdle hiding a lot of weight that won't be seen, with this stone facing up more like a well cut .6-.62 TIC.

HCA 2.1 FIC

Same as above. Larger table improves on the 75 lower girdle. Still paying for weight that you won't see.

HCA 1.8 FIC - Inclusion under the table.

Comparitively though, even with the hidden weight, the price is also relative to an ideal cut .6-.62

FWW, I'm not interested in buying any of these and simply passing some time. Don't see/hear much about FIC's generally. Based off the images and numbers, how would one expect the ASET/IS to look for the following? The first two appear to have quite a decent amount of optical symmetry.

And a few more in various sizes.

HCA 1.2 FIC

HCA 1.1 FIC - IGI Certified

HCA 1.3 FIC

I'd be interested to see a few of these in person to compare to the standard TIC. The FIC definitely appear to be competitively priced as well all other variables the same.

Trade members cant comment on specific diamonds from known suppliers.

In general unless the crown and pavilion angles are specifically matched and with longer lowers you get the bright center with dark ring affect at normal viewing distances due to obstruction once the pavilion drops below 40.5.
This can be evident in earrings and pendants if bad enough but due to the longer viewing distance has more tolerance for shallower pavilions.
The hca is not fine grained enough to separate these out.

For example 54T 80% lowers AGS gives a potential grade of 1 for a 40 degree pavilion and crown angles of 38.0 to 38.5 with no possibility of a 0 at any crown angle.

Thanks Karl.

So in short, pretty much everything I posted while scoring well on the HCA would have significant obstruction when viewing the stone, and ideally if sourcing a firey RB the best method would be still to work within the TIC range of proportions while trying to find a stone which may be a little deeper (closer to 62.4) with a small table and tall crown.

I cant comment on those specific diamonds.

In the end once you get to far into the fic range they have to be vetted by eye with the intended use in mind.
With diamcalc those with no chance of working can be weeded out somewhat within the limitations of the numbers.
