Hello everyone and thank you for your help. I am in the market for an engagement ring and have found 2 diamonds I am looking for your opinion on.

Diamond 1: ASG 000 Ideal VVS2, (I) color at 1.026 carat. I was able to purchase this diamond with white gold band at a friends jewelry shop for just over $6000

Diamond 2: ASG 1, with polish being a 1 and the rest graded 0. VS1, (F) color at 1.02 carat. This diamond was more expensive but around $500 dollars.

I observed these two diamonds next to each other and could not tell the difference. However, I do not have the sharpest eye and they were on a blue felt pad.
My dilemma is I do not understand how the diamond I purchased (diamond 1) had a sticker price less expensive than diamond 2. It is an ASG 000 ideal and has better clarity at VVS2. I lose 3 spots on color from F to I, but is still in the near colorless range.

Would or should color from F to I matter this much for me to spend the money and sacrifice having an "ideal" cut and VVS2 clarity. The price is not significant and I would be willing to pay the extra if I truely was getting a better quality diamond. It appears based on the color alone they value diamond 2 more than diamond 1.

I understand that withough viewing the 2 diamonds it is hard for you to give sound advice, I am just trying to understand the whole grading to value ratio because it would appear to me I have bought the better diamond at ASG 0 and VVS2.

I appreciate all the help and advice as I still have time to switch my diamond if need be.

Jason.

An F is much more expensive than an I.

different people interpret "quality" as different combinations of characteristics. If quality means high-stats then D IF is best, and F VVS is pretty good. If quality means size then I/J SI is a good place. You got an AGS0, AGS' ideal range is tight and I'm sure you have a lovely diamond

I suspect that both diamond are well cut given their ratings by the AGS. Polish is not really important to optics. Color is a personal preference. In some lighting you ight see the difference between and F and a G. Maybe to put your mind ae ease go look at the two again in many lighting enviroments and from tilt angles. This will let you assess any cut differences and any color differences.
