Hi I am just wanting to get some professional advice. I am looking at purchasing a diamond. It is a follows: 1.24 E SI2 Proportion Grade = Very Good, Finish Grade = Very Good, Fluorescence = Medium. I am a little worried about the Fluorescence showing up in normal light a bit too blue and making the stone appear oily or milky. Should medium fluorescence not make a difference to this stone or should I look for Nil fluorescence as it is an E colourless in colour?

It is an AGS?

as it is a medium, I don't think you need to worry about milkiness or oiliness, which is very rare, anyway.

as to the issue of it looking blue, I don't like it because I don't look good in blue! However, some people love strong blue flour!

Hi thanks for answering. Sorry but what is AGS? Do you think it will look too blue?

It is rare for a diamond with medium fluorescence to look oily or milky, this only very rarely happens with strong. To give you an idea, a vendor here who has been in the trade over 30 years said that out of all the many strong fluoro diamonds he has sold in that time, only 2 or 3 have looked oily etc in certain lights. Does this reassure you a bit?

Best of luck with your purchase!

Hi thanks for answering. In normal sunlight will the medium give off a blue tinge or do you think it would be so minimal it wouldn''t be noticeable.

What a fantastic picture, Johan. Thanks for sharing that. I love the look my medium blue gives me in sunlight. It is a blue tinge, but it is minimal and probably only noticeable upon direct comparison to another non-fluorescent stone.

does anyone know where that bit of fluorescence misinformation came from? quoted as gospel and treated as urban legend.

i would aim for strong blue fluorescence, fer sure.
