So, my GIA report has the following comment
"additional twining wisps, pinpoints and surface graining are not show" - mine is a pretty clean VS2

A jeweler told me that usually those comments are present on the certificate when the rough that is used is of poorer quality. Is that a true statement?
Just curious.

Thanks

Don't listen to that. GIA graded the stone as VS2. That is good. Is this the jeweler who sold you the stone? If not, they are just jealous they did not make the sale.

haha, not who sold it to me - i think he was just floored at the price I paid and thought that there has to be something wrong with the stone. :naughty:

I was just curious if you can tell the quality of the original rough by looking at the final product.

The original color and clarity characteristics can be seen unless they were treated (I realize that seems like a 'Captain Obvious' comment). A polisher or experienced diamantaire may be able to determine the grain structure and cross-polarized filters will reveal internal strain if present. But by-and-large, gem-quality rough is gem-quality rough, traded on a global scale we all adhere-to.

Of course, there are some individuals who might have a "different" take...
