adding milgrain bezels to studs... would they appear larger?

Hello- I've seen and loved the milgrain bezeled studs that many here have posted. I have a pair of studs that are about 1.2 ctw and have a lot of sentimental value, so i don't want to upgrade them. However they are in a 4 prong martini setting for the past 10 years or so and i'd like to change the setting to one that doesn't sink into my lobe as much.

so a few questions to the folks that have the milgrain bezels-

- do they add any size? about how much? (in mm)
- are the comfortable to wear all the time (even overnight) ?
- is it much more expensive a setting than other stud settings? I'd likely go to ID jewelry given what i've heard about their prices.

thanks! if anyone has any comparison photos I'd GREATLY appreciate it!

thanks!

I don't have any comparison photos ... but I do have bezeled studs. :D

My stones are .73 points, so about 5.7ish mm each. With the bezels, they come in a 6.4 mm each ... and I've got thin bezels. You honestly can't see any plain metal from the top, just a very think border of "beads," almost. They're perfectly comfortable to wear overnight (I just pull the backing to the tip of the post, and I can't even feel them). I got mine from ID, and the settings were very reasonable - with those guys, it sort of goes unsaid that the service was impeccable. :D

Here's a couple of shots from various angles - we're around the same size, so I'm guessing if you went with the stock settings, this is more or less what you'd see. I went with WG to keep the cost down, and asked for a matte finish for that antique-y look.

(They're a little schmutz-y in these shots - don't hold it against me!)

I have some millgrain bezel studs from Greenlake Jewelers; they are, ahem, white stones which I cannot post here to show you, haha. 8mm each, old european cut. I didn't find that the bezels added size really (I had them basket set before), but the bezels are super delicate.

I find them very comfy. They're just about the only earrings that don't irritate my ears to sleep in, actually.

If you can get stock Stuller bezel mountings, they're not too bad... most jewelers can source Stuller for you. With bezels the delicacy and workmanship has a LOT to do with the skill of the bench setting them, not so much the setting itself. So you can definitely go with Stuller or Adwar or whatever if you have close enough to a standard size... which you might be pretty close to it sounds like. I can't recall how much mine were, but I also bought them awhile ago with gold prices much less so it wouldn't be much help anyway, haha.

Good luck! I think bezel millgrain studs are super classy and a great way to do studs, my favorite look by far. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you go for it :appl:

Thanks, Stci! Lots of practice - I swear, I take, like, 10 terrible photos for every one that's good enough to post!
