I''m soo upset!!! My boyfriend is finally calling Lockes Diamonds to set our gorgeous K .95ct stone and they''re telling us they won''t do it anymore!! A couple months ago I spoke to a very friendly guy, the one who helped Matatora with her ring setting, and he got my stone all approved and had the OK to set it. Now he''s gone and they are telling me they''re changing their policies to not allow Ks to be set and eventually make it so they only set Lockes diamonds in their Signature Setting. They said they''d set it in a 4-prong.... I don''t want a 4 prong!!!!!!!!!! I''m so mad and upset with these people I''m shaking. I don''t know what to do. The lady said she''d call me back. If she still says no, I think I''ll tell her about Pricescope and how she''s letting all these people down by turning on Locke''s word.

What do I do!??!

OK, I''m lost. Why is 4 prong ok and not more? And what difference does color make?

I''ll tell you, Sunkist, I am not surprised. Tiffany won''t set other people''s diamonds in their settings, period. I emailed that setting (among others) to Maytal Hoftman and she said it is a very simple setting. Maybe you could get a quote from her. It would likely be less than the Lockes price, too.

It''s because that particular setting is their signature setting, I''m sure. They only want to set their own diamonds in that setting ultimately, but they must be making a color cut off for the time being for setting other stones. Tiffany doesn''t sell anything lower than I color.

Do you have anything in writing from them?

That''s pretty annoying. If you have documentation from the other guy (i.e. emails), you can probably convince them to make an exception for your ring.

I think it''s silly that Locke''s is trying to emulate Tiffany and put this policy in place. They are so not Tiffany!

I agree that if you have a written commitment and price quote, then they may be obligated to set it. However, I''m not sure it would be fair to hold them to a price given two months ago. And really, policies can change when 2 months go by.

Yes! We have an email from them, and we forwarded it to them and they still said no!

I guess the 4 prong is not their "signature setting" and so it''s not as "regulated".....

how recent is the email? Did they say how long the price quote was good for? I know when I''ve received quotes in the past from vendors, they normally say the quote is good for 2 weeks or whatever their policy is.

Ya, when Darrin first got the approval he said normally they don''t set K''s , but mine made approval and I was so happy! If they don''t let me have that setting I''m back at square one. Ahh! I''m still shakey from talking to that lady.

Mmm, I''m looking now, Darrin''s approval email was sent in May, 3 months ago.

3 months is a pretty long time for a vendor to hold a quote. I guess if you really want the setting you could find out if the email is a binding contract that they''d have to hold to. But, with all the drama, would you still want to work with them if you had to force it?

I would, yes. My boyfriend would not. I still have some hope here, but it probably won''t happen

Thanks for the explanations to my questions.

sunkist, I hope this all works out for you, I know how long you''ve waited.

Thanks, Ellen. I''m glad I have the wonderful people on PS to share this horrible frustration with. Of course I guess if I''d never found PS I would never have found Lockes and thus would never have had this problem
31.gif
hehe. No, but thanks for letting me vent.

If you can think of anything else I can try to get them to do it, please share. I''m thinking I could tell them how this will be a bad impression on the 100,000 people on PS.

awww man! This stinks.

I think if you really want the setting, you''re going to have to find out if they legally have to follow through with what''s in the email or not. If they''ve changed their policy there is no way to make them do it, however, if somehow your agreement comes in before the change, I''d think they''d have to follow through. I do know how it is to have your heart set on a setting though and nothing *similar* will do. I hope they will make this final exception for you sunkist

Honestly, that''s what I was thinking of. It depends on how hard you want to fight this I guess. And I don''t know if it would do any good, but you won''t be out anything if they still refuse.

I had to do that once to RETURN some custom artwork I had done as a gift. There were major issues, and they would not refund my money. They knew it was bad, but refused. So I ended up telling them, "Fine, I''ll go ahead and give it to them. They can hang it in their home, for all their influential friends to see, and then tell them who did it".

They hand delivered my money and took the pic back.

I can only think of 2 possible alternatives.

1. Find someone else to make that setting - making minor alterations to avoid copyright issues (such as no surprise diamonds, etc.)

2. Ask if they would be willing to set it if they were to omit the Locke''s hallmark from the inside of the ring.

If they have changed their policies, I can only imagine it''s because they are trying to build their own "brand" and meet certain quality standards. It''s their prerogative to change their policies at any time, of course.

If the setting doesn''t bear the Locke''s hallmark on the inside of the ring, then it wouldn''t necessarily pose a problem running counter to their policy because it''s not a "signature" identified piece then.

Good luck.

THEY DID IT! THEY DID IT!!!!! They approved my stone to be set in their Signature Solitaire

I am SOOOOOOOOOOO happy

They have changed their policies and are trying to hold a certain level of quality in their rings now, but Maria there told them my whole story and they are granting me this exception!

They also wanted me to say "Hi" to all the girls on Pricescope
2.gif
They will join the boards sometime soon to share professional pics of Lockes rings with wedding bands that some girls wanted to see so badly.

So, it will be a month before I see this baby and I know it will be worth it!!

Yay!!!

They certainly did do the right thing to honor their word to you! I do hope they post pictures, because I never did see the ring with a diamond band, and that did matter to me to know if one could sit next to it since the diamond sits low.

I''m happy for you that you are happy, but man, I think it''s sad that you had to beg them to take your money to give you soemthing they will profit from. It seems hard to believe you had to beg and you are celebrating that you get to send them money for what you wanted and they had agreed to provide earlier.

Amazing.........

i was thinking the same thing rod
i am glad it worked out for you though sunkist and that you are happy!

sunkist, yes!!! Great news. Will be waiting for pics of that beautiful K!

Rod, I understand what you''re saying, and one could definitely look at it that way.

However, you could also look at it like this,
She got what she wanted, when nothing else would do.
2.gif

ITA agree with Rod that they could''ve extended more goodwill toward you and made an exception for your ring *off the bat*, but at least they came around.

I know they want to maintain a standard with their signature setting and that''s all fine and well, but you HAD been pre-approved prior to the policy change. I''m glad they''re honoring that. I can''t wait to see your ring. It''s going to be GLORIOUS!

Ellen, like yourself, I am happy she got what she wanted. I just think it''s sad she had to go through such an experience in the first place. What ever happened to honoring one''s commitment without reservation, particularly when you are in the business of taking someones money in exchange for a product, at what can only be imagined for profit? One should never have to beg to get to part with one''s hard earned dollars. Sort of cheapens the buying experience to me. Sorry for feeling so jaded..........

So glad it worked out for you sunkist. I know how much you adore that setting. What a PITA though.

I''m so glad to hear that you''re getting what you wanted. Congrats.

Oh and don''t forget we want to see LOTs of photos.

lol I feel like we''re having a reverse discussion here. (think back to another thread)

Trust me, I''m NOT sticking up for the jeweler. I wholeheartedly agree, one''s word should be as good as a handshake. She should never have had to go through this. I guess I thought that went without saying.

I was only happy for her, as she got her hearts desire. That''s all.

Oh Sunkist I was so horrified for you when I read your first post, but I am relieved that everything seems to be working out and that they are willing to honor their commitment. The important thing here is for you to get the setting you want. Locke's signature setting is such a beauty I don't blame you a bit for fighting for it!!!
