OK, so I am starting a new thread so you can see I have narrowed it down to the following two diamonds. Please let me know which one you would purchase and why. These are both basically the same size and cut quality, the big difference is do I go with an F color SI2 or an H color SI1. If they show as unavailable it''s because they are on hold for me. I don''t really have any information besides what''s provided on the sites. Please help me decide. Thanks so much!

You might want to call JA and ask them to eyeball their diamond describe the inclusions for you (looks like they own the diamond). Try to decide whether inclusions would bother you if they can be seen with naked eye.

I tried that, but it didn''t really help me. The gemologist I spoke with was looking at the actual diamond when we spoke and said that she could see it, but that she is a trained gemologist. She didn''t say whether or not an untrained eye would likely pick up the inclusion. I wish I had more to go on, but I need to make a decision ASAP.

Tough one, but in that case I would go with the Blue Nile one, since the inclusions are fewer and I like fluorescence.

JA''s response makes me think the stone is not eye-clean, and that would be my guess based on the magnified images...

I would probably pick neither (don''t like no pictures from Bluenile), but i would choose the bluenile AGS000 over the JA.

JA agreed that it might not be the best choice for me and helped me pick this out http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=131&item=861212

I am setting up the wire transfer in the morning. Can anyone comment on this? It looks to me like the AGS report is much older than some I have seen and I don''t see a date on it. Am I missing something? What do you guys think?

looks awesome

Ditto ditto!! Lovely pick and kudos to JA, I knew they would be helpful!!! Ask them about the date on the report, maybe it didn't show up on the scan possibly.

I agree with that! JA was uinbelievably helpful and never tried to sell me a diamond, just provided me with all the information I needed to make a decision. It should be here tomorrow morning and then be set by Friday....can''t wait. Anyone have any suggestions on how to protect myself when I go to have it set. How do I ensure that I am getting back the same stone I give them?

Congratulations on finding the right diamond in time! It looks gorgeous.

Take your finished ring and a copy of your AGS report to an independent appraiser, and they''ll be able to match the inclusions in your diamond to your report. You should really look into getting the ring insured after that point.

Thanks, I am happy with it. It should be arriving tomorrow. I have another question though. It is arriving tomorrow morning, and I am rushing it to a high end retailer to have it set in the setting I purchased from them a few days ago. I need the ring finished by tomorrow to take with me for this engagement weekend. Will they match it up to the AGS report? Also, what happens if it''s not the same? How exactly can I tell jamesallen.com that it''s different? Wouldn''t they just assume I am lying or am trying to scam them? These are probably questions I should have asked before wiring $22,000+, but it seemed like they were highly recommended. Thoughts?

FIRST you should check the inclusions in your stone against the report. THEN when you bring it to the jewelers, make sure they also plot any inclusions and confirm that it is the same stone as on the report. THEN before you take it home with you, check again to make sure.

Since you don''t have time for an appraisal, I think that''s probably the best you can do. I don''t think JA would misrepresent something unless it were a mistake. I would be more concerned with the jeweler setting it, and even then, the chances of them trying to switch it out on you are teensy.

Thanks. I just bought myself a 10X loupe and some diamond tweezers today to do that. Can someone on here take a look at the stone for me? I am able to look at the magnified image and the AGS report, but I can''t seem to find the inclusions where the report shows them. I assume it''s just my inexperience, but would like to be reassured by someone here. http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=131&item=861212

Thanks,

Justin

hey congratulations!

What setting did you choose?

To the untrained eye, a VS1 stone may be difficult to find inclusions with a 10x loupe. You could try a 40x. I know that sucks. Also, be careful with the tweezers.

Ditto that with the inclusions. JA is a highly regarded vendor who is completely trustworthy, however I do understand your feelings of fear that your diamond might get switched etc. Firstly this is very rare with a vendor, also for a jeweller definitely not worth the consequences. Get to know your diamond as best you can, try your loupe but you might need more power. I can see some small inclusions and one under the table, if you can loupe that one it could be your birthmark! But bear in mind it will be tiny. Learn it's personality too, not easy in a short time frame though. But above all try not to worry!

I don't want to confuse you or anything but I had my heart set on this lovely diamond.

blahblah-link

It's H Vs2 and ideal cut.the clarity is much better than the ones you've listed.

That''s beautiful.

I meant the blahblah-link one.
