Dirt Cheap Diamonds has been wonderful in helping me find a great rock for my girlfriend, and I've learned a lot at this site, too. After weeks of searching I think I've found a winner.

Can I get a few final assessments from people here before buying?

Here's the GIA grading:
Round brilliant
.74 carat
E color
VS1 (crystal, indented natural, needle)
5.83x5.86x3.57
depth 61.6
table 56
excellent sym and polish
no culet
no fluoresence
girdle medium to slightly thick, faceted
$3,237

DCD also sent me the sarin numbers, which differ slightly:
diam 5.86 (5.83x5.89) x 3.55
depth 60.6
crown 33.8 14.7 %
pavil 41.0 42.7 %
table 3.27 mm 55.8 %
culet 0.5 %, v. small
girdle 1.5 % (1.1 - 1.6)

I think those sarin numbers are correct, some of them are slightly smudged.

So, plugging various combos of these numbers into the HCA, I get anywhere from a 0.4 to 1.

I do have a couple of questions, if someone could respond:
• Does it look like I did the HCA correctly?
• Is it normal for there to be slight differences in the measurements on the two reports?
• What is an indented natural?

And, of course,
• Does this appear to be a good diamond at a good price?

Thanks so much everyone!

Well, I see after doing some more reading that the indented natural is likely nothing to worry about.

Thoughts on the rest, anyone? Thanks!

Jim is known as a good source and helper :)

There are alwais slight measurement errors - no big deal.

I got 1.0 HCA using 56% table, 61% depth and 33.8 and 41.0 degrees crown pavilion angles.

Sounds like a great stone.

Thanks, Leonid!

Actually, I was told (and I could be wrong) that a natural in a stone is a sign of a talented/experienced cutter. Plus, a signature of your stone

Good luck -- sounds nice

Thanks for the replies! I bought the diamond and it arrived today. Wow, it's absolutely beautiful.... can't wait to present it to my honey.

Much thanks to Dirt Cheap — they rule!!!
