About to buy engagement ring - last minute buying advice?

I have been researching diamonds and settings for several weeks now and am days away from purchasing an engagement ring. A few weeks ago I knew nothing about diamonds or settings, but thanks to the internet, and Pricescope, I feel pretty comfortable with my knowledge about diamonds to make a good decision. I am less confident however with my knowledge of settings however, especially when it comes to quality of a setting.

I am fairly sure I will be ordering from B2C Jewels. I am looking at a GIA certified diamond with the following specs:

Carat WT: 0.80
Cut: Excellent
Color: I
Clarity: SI2
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent

The setting I am looking at is also from B2C Jewels:

Stock No: ASAJ0435
http://www.b2cjewels.com/Diamond-Ac...nt-Engagement-Ring-14K-White-Gold-8250-1.aspx

I really like the look of the setting. I think it looks very classic, simple, and elegant, but with just the right amount of flair to it. I love the cathedral setting, and the 4 small diamonds under under the basket that aren't visible from the top view.

What I am concerned about is the quality of the setting. It is priced at $449.00 which I should be grateful for, because all of the other settings I have been interested in were significantly more expensive than this one. Should I be concerned about the quality of this setting from B2C Jewels because of the low price point, or should I feel lucky I found the setting I want and it happens to be at a cheap price point?

Thanks in advance for any input.

You'll probably want to move this to Rocky Talky. Use the "report concern" button to ask admin to move it for you.

If I had to guess, the combination of it being 2mm wide,as well as 14k with 14k prongs is why the price is so low. I don't know if that thickness is normal, just seems a little low but then again I'm used to looking at pave and channel set :-)

You might want to compare the ring width with other sites and see how thick theirs are. Also check what their prongs are made of,it seems some places use platinum prongs on a gold ring due to durability, but that also drives the price up.

But I'm definitely not an expert, just a few things that caught my eye.

Thanks for the response, the 2mm wide is actually a plus for me. I am looking for a thin setting, I think want the setting to look nice, but I also don't want to detract from the diamond, so simple and thin is what I am looking. I think I will post this on the RockyTalky forum and see if I get more responses, this was definitely the wrong forum, so sorry guys and gals. :-)

You should do a search on pricescope for their work and see how they came out. I've never worked with them before.

14k is cheaper (nothing wrong with 14k to me, just that gold is pricier so obviously its going to be cheaper than 18k) than the other metals and maybe its a stock setting thus maybe cheaper for them to make? I have 2mm rings and I love them because my fingers are very small and it compliments them. Size 3.5- 4 ring finger but I thought 2mm was normal. I never pay attention anymore to that and just focus on the diamond itself :)
